Why would a guy ask a girl to remember him?

So I am in separation with a guy that I liked and we only reconnected recently through messaging. I ended off the conversation with "Hope to see you soon" (well we are still friends I guess) and he replied "You need to remember me always". What does this means and what is he even thinking?
