How to kindly let a guy know to back off a little?

So guys of G&G.. if you recently started talking and flirting with a girl.. and you don’t realize it but you’re coming on to strong.. how would you prefer the girl let you know your doing so?

In my situation a guy I’ve been friends with for quite a while we recently started talking again bc my long term relationship ended and he lost his best friend.. so we both kinda needed someone to talk to. We started flirting a little.. but then it started going to far. When I’d get busy he started calling me 2-3 times texting me on multiple message platforms, double texting. And I get it he just lost his best friend who he talked to like all the time and so he’s desperately trying to fill that void and I feel for him.. but it’s also kind of a turn off. He even told me “I love you” and wanted to start dating.. and I told him it was to soon for me to do that I hadn’t healed from my breakup yet.. and he got upset.. and I’m seeing serious red flags from him. But I’m scared how to tell him to back off a little because I don’t want him to get upset or hurt or think I don’t like him…

The classic good ol convo killers, it's a technique used for many reasons but no matter the reason, it's very well effective, now I do gotta warn you that this only works with normal people, not desperate people or simply etc. It's when girls kill the conversation with either one or two maybe three, no more than four words that technically has no proper reason to respond too, ima give you an example of all four

One word: haha

Two words: yea lol

Three words: that's so true

Four words: I know right lol

Thing Is that if the guy is interested in you then normally he should take an extra shot on reviving the conversation which gives you a chance to jump at the other subject without fully blowing him off, if he over flirts again, just keep doing it until he gets it or confronts you, if that doesn't work you can always tell him how you feel.

Saying "Fuck off" and ghosting him always works.

I guess explain the situation honestly, "I know we've been through some hard times. I'm here to support you if you need it, but I am not into you like that. Let's support eachother through these times" or something.

Probably tell them nicely that you're being a little too flirtatious. And say I (depending on if you do) enjoy talking with you but I want to not rush into anything and talk for now.
