Is it common for people try to asset dominance over people they’re intimidated or threatened by?

I’m curious to know if people tend to try to control people they feel intimidated by or a threat to them for whatever reason? I keep running into situations where men and women try to control or feel the need to try and give me demands which I never do or listen to unless it’s a work situation where people abuse they’re power. With most guys it’s passive aggressive behavior they’ll never challenge me to a fight directly it’s just sneaky behavior. It’s to the point if a stranger is being too friendly I suspect something is up. Some guys will even try and stare me down which never works considering I’m 6’4. Supervisors will try and treat me like a fucking slave to prove they’re superior or they have power. I’ve had men at the gym wait for me to go to a certain machine and rush to get their before I do or they’ll watch me while I’m working out. If the gym is too crowded I feel like I’m being watched kinda makes me kinda paranoid kinda in self defense state of mind I don’t know it’s just weird.
