When a teenager says "Im mature for my age" , does it mean they're still in child mentality (still young) ?

It means that for their age they are much more mature than other kids of the same age. They probably tend to do things that are well beyond what kids of their age would be doing. They are still a kid though just one that is much more mature than typical. That isn't something really that people say about themselves so much as it is something others say about them. I have a younger cousin around your age that I have told others is much more mature than her age would sugget. I cannot imagine her saying it about herself. It is usually a compliment from someone else.

If you want to know for real if they are mature or not, ask them about where did they come from? and what type of lifestyle they had or are having? If a person lives in United States or some other European Union nation with his parents who both have decent jobs and he/she has PS5, and cellphone and all the gadgets that are considered to be cool these day and he/she has all the money they need to sustain their lifestyle or feed their interests and hobbies, they are not mature, not even close.

But those people who came from a war torn nations or nations where their economies have collapsed and there are Plenty of them around the world, those type of people are mature, because they have experienced life, they have seen True colors of humans when it comes to hunger and desperation.

Whenever a teenager says that, for the most part, they’re still just young. You’re still vulnerable to a lot of the same things someone else your age might be. You can be more mature behavior-wise but it still doesn’t negate that. However if an individual came from a really difficult environment (for ex. War torn country, home where they’re supporting siblings/selves/parents, something traumatic happened, etc) then yeah they’re probably more mature than most people without the childlike portion as that would have been taken from them, but I also don’t think they’d have to say that they’re mature for their age as they already are
