we both have interests in video games and wanted to see my water bottle as it had a video game we both loved on it. he called me a smartass when seeing my grades (in a good way, i think) and i was seated next to him but our teacher changed the seats. i’m a very shy person irl as i have asperger’s but i do catch him looking at me a lot. he also always chooses to sit with his best friend, which i would rather sit with my bestie too so i get him there. today he complimented another girls costume but not mine and they laughed at the kahoot together. i tried to talk but they didn’t really laugh. does he not like me anymore? is today just an off day? we’re both 16, if that matters (definitely does)

Do you know that he likes you in that way in the first place? I read what you wrote and it does feel like he likes you but are you sure not just as a friend. There are some subtle signs of flirting there but not enough to make me say yeah he has got a thing for you. Most are more friend type interactions. As far as him complimenting someone on a costume don't think too much into that sweetie. He might have just found it clever. He doesn't have to like every single costume he sees. It doesn't mean he still doesn't like you at the very least as a friend which is what it appears to me as.

it might be a friend relationship, but i’ve noticed like after everyday his friend kind of glances at me then looks at him and gets a little defensive, though i assumed these are about other things. when i said the game was my favorite he said he speedran it over the summer and then mentioned working out a ton, and all my friends keep saying he likes me, but i’m just not sure, i miss a ton of social cues.

Maybe he didn't want his friend to know he likes you, in case you don't like him back. I think he likes you though.
