Guys, why would you give a girl your number and not respond?

So I reconnected with someone I went to high school with. He actually initiated contact by giving me his phone number. I did initiate meeting up, which didn’t happen since he says he is busy. (That I do believe) We started texting and he would delay answering (so would I) and I sent the last message to no reply. I’m not sure if I should leave it alone or ask about meeting up again. I was wondering why give me his number to stop completely stop responding?

Also, we follow each other on social media so he is active.

Any advice on what I should do

There could be a plethora of reasons why he specifically chooses not to engage, despite giving you his number. You can get varying responses here but none will be his answer, that’s why I think it’s best to work with what you do have from him. Since giving you his number, he’s flaked without setting another date, slow with responses, and hasn’t even responded to your last message. I don't know if somethings happened since giving you his number, and no one else can tell you with fact. In any case, definitely do NOT chase him. Right now, he isn’t showing you interest and if he’s the one who made the first move, then he really needs to step it up. Otherwise don’t waste your time, you’ll be initiating everything.
