I noticed a lot of men say that women wear revealing clothing for male attention but how would that even make sense when the large majority of men are attracted to modesty? Wouldn't dressing for male attention be dressing modest instead of revealing since that's what men say they like?

If men love when women dress modest then why is there this assumption that women wearing revealing clothes is for mens attention?

Ah yes, the classic cognitive dissonance of being a woman in the patriarchy. You can’t be a slut, but you can’t be a prude, but you’re not an old lady so show some skin! Oh but you’re too old for that kind of stuff, you need to look more mature to be respected. You’re not his mother but he needs to be cared for like a child, but you should have fun! You know, I was 1,000 percent with you and this, in the beginning, but seems iffy now.

I think we have to establish the types of men. Anpu mentioned some good points around being strictly instinctual/primitive/physiological, but this can’t be 100% endorsed or denied.

I don’t know how true it is, if men actually look at women in reproductive ways, or if it’s in sexual fantasy/pleasure type of ways. (for Single straights).

But even if we consider it, either the reproductive biology one or the sexual pleasure one (horniness etc.), it could only realistically be applied to single men who just want to be “fuck boys.” They’d most likely be the type to look AT, and look FOR, provocative women. But then again, this still clashes. If it were to inseminate her (biology wise), then he’d have to stay and help raise the child/offspring. But fuckboys don’t become “dads” 99% of the time. So it would have meant that the single fboy just wanted to look at provocative women and get with them for the pleasure rush. Alone. Not for reproduction.

In either case, this means for married men, they specifically shouldn’t oogle at single provocative women because they will not reproduce/inseminate, nor just ‘one and done her’- cause he has a lifelong lover and sexual partner combined into one. ☝️

Truthfully, some men look, and some men don’t look. I think that is dependent on whether they are into a one night stand, or if that lady is not their cup of tea, even if she is half nude.

I’m not at any comfortable conclusion here, though. Seems overall, tricky, to get to “serious partner phase,” with the different women, dressing for different reasons, and the different men, wanting different things at different points in their lives. Some of those men, will be into the showy lady, but then be ready to “settle down.” Later. And want the modest lady, instead. Some ladies will be into such provocative attire cause it’s just easier to work with and still appealing.

I feel like what makes this question difficult is that it’s a good start and it calls for men to be: either consistent,* or extremely clear* on what they want sexually, romantically, short term, long term. Etc.

But it makes it difficult to understand what people want, what morals they have, what’s okay and what’s not okay, the why, their sense of discipline/integrity, type of fetishes they may have, and on and on. It’s just a lot to consider if we don’t have 100% transparency for either side.

Humans overall, can’t dress TOO revealing cause then it’s not appropriate for public settings. We can’t be so comfortable we just get tired of wearing shirts lol. Men also can’t expect women to change their style of clothes according to their preferences- when he’s looking for a good time, and later when he wants something more quiet and slower in pace.

It’s possible that men may also think that they will naturally find BOTH modest and provocative women, so they will have no issues with their tastes and preferences in encountering women, in different points of their lives.

But some women, as men also do… at times, dress for male gazes. The opposite sex. So this idea of male preference in clothe wear and women, changing, isn’t convenient for the lady who does dress for the male gaze. It’s possible some of these women believe: if they attract first with looks, the chance (s) will be higher for him to stay later, and longer, for a long term relationship. A woman cannot, USUALLY, reel in a ‘husband material’ kind of man with her outfit, alone. That sort of thing (soul mate) would simply require social chemistry, and other things.

It’s like the equivalent of two lunch food trucks offering free food. One for a day and the other- every day. Some workers go by, and some will take from the free day offer, but not become lifelong customers, thereafter. They just took the limited deal. (Convenience).

While the lifelong-free food truck, will have some customers stop by and continue to do so, half who visited the first time or first week will not stay. They will dine elsewhere, where they prefer and enjoy the most.** They may like different food altogether, even.

Out of the ones who stayed, though. Half will stay until they get tired and also want to try something new, or go back to previous shops, or simply to other restaurants they always wanted to visit initially, and are willing to pay the price and/or ready now to pay that price. So if we equate the open wardrobe, of the lady who wants male gaze, for a life long partner. Her level of freeness will attract all sorts, but not successfully keep the right sort she had actually wanted. She’ll instead, have to find a more precise way to encounter the one she truly prefers in the end.

I know I seem a bit all over the place, but I really think it’s because of considering the different types of scenarios and people. People are all over the place. 😂 I think the avenue/idea of “clothes for soulmate” is a weak and 90% of the time, unreliable method. I think clothes can be a part of the “fun” and foreplay/ and allure for singles trying to have fun. But that’s about it.

And we can’t forget about respect and recognition, that some people will truly wear what they want, irrespective to what others want or like.

I just hope that people find what they’re looking for, to be honest.

And that committed couples respect each other, and stay loyal if that’s what they had initially chosen. And don’t rush into commitment. Make sure you get along with them, and they’re the one you want to stay with forever. This way cheating is eliminated. Or less likely.

In conclusion. We can’t generalize men and women. Everyone is at different places, with different goals, and tastes. I think everyone will simply notice the women dressing less, MORE, and the men who catcall or stare at them, more than we see the rest of the other variations. You know, the modest women being approached by disciplined men. Etc.

We’ve seen the f boy, whether successful or not previously- push modest ladies.. and some uninterested provocative ladies, and also seen others step in to push him off. That’s noticed at times.

But everyone remains different. I’d say the largest demographic IS the singles looking for a good time. As almost always with women, you are conflating two different kinds of attention as if they were the same thing.

Men find women who dress modestly more desirable FOR RELATIONSHIPS. Men find women who dress more revealing more desirable for CASUAL SEX.

This should not be new information, nor should it be confusing. The problem is that women want it both ways - they want all the attention from dressing revealing, but they also want men to take them seriously as relationships partners. But men don't work that way and never will.

And most women, when forced to choose, simply can't bring themselves to go without the sexual attention, so they don't. And then they blame men for not taking them seriously as relationship partner, because it's impossible for most women to take any accountability for their own decisions.

Women say this all the time, you get some that say they dress provocatively to make themselves feel good. I don't really care if a woman is dressed modestly or immodestly. What usually catches my attention is how well "put together" their style is, not how covered (or not) they are.

For example, there are some one piece swimsuits that drip style and can honestly be more attractive than a thong bikini.

It also can be about how much confidence you portray. If you're look comfortable and confident in revealing clothing it will look more attractive than if you seem uncomfortable wearing it. For a serious, long term relationship most men would prefer a woman who carries herself in a modest elegant way.
