Guys, Why do y'all ALWAYS go for the completely vapid gals?

Two air-headed gals sit next to me at my favorite lunch spot.

The one who ACTUALLY claims she's a teacher takes a call and says, "Yaaaaa, we're at this plaaaaace... I don't know... it's like Greeeeek or Italiaaaaan or somethiiiiing..." (eyeroll) She puts her water and junk at the classy marble countertop, cluttering the space as if no one else is there. She's dressed like she just popped out of a Gatsby novel.

(Sigh. I look at the bartender, who chuckles bc he knows I'm thinking 12 sarcastic things already.)

A very pale fellow walks in dressed all in black and orders a Bordeaux.

She looks at him, "Oh! what's that?"

"It's a wine. Do you know what wine is?"

"Oh! No." (Mind you, she's at least 35, so this clearly is a pile of horse s**t, but the guy is EATING IT UP.)

He starts explaining wine, where it comes from... then quizzes her like a toddler to make sure she learned. (He claims he's 46 but he looks more like and "old" 60.)

She asks if he has Instagram and he asks if that's social media bc he doesn't have any... (Bs... He reveals he's a realtor; what realtor doesn't have IG etc nowadays?)

This goes on for a while... Very "dinner and a movie" sort of moment for me. The bartender and I are muttering about how vapid these three are.

The guy plays the "i have a fiancee" card, the gal plays the "i have a boyfriend" card... and they keep flirting. (Clearly planning to shag by the end of the night.)

It was the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

The gay was a major idiot to fall for the tacky gal at the bar who doesn't know what wine is. He buys the priciest bottle in the house to "teach her" what wine is? Incredible.

I never thought to pretend to be completely vapid for a guy, but y'all fall for it every time. I don't know why.

A friend of mine does a meme of what guys want -- orders a glass of water then asks, "What's that?" to see if the bartender will start explaining what ICE CUBES and LIME are. 90% of the time the bartender does!

Why do y'all fall for it?

I get your point (kind of) but initial conversations at bar/restaurants aren't typically high minded.
He was adapting to the hand dealt to him. Sounds entertaining at any rate.

So I hadn't seen what the guy looked like bc he talked like some kind of hot stuff. When I turned to leave I saw him. Ooof. I expected at least a younger guy from what he was saying. (I wasn't precisely eavesdropping since he was standing right behind me talking to these two, leaning past me to get his wine.) I glanced back at the bartender and made such a face that he struggled a sec to keep his composure.

But don't ever assume that a 'player' automatically means the guy is great looking.

Huh? How often do you think guys go out hoping to pick up the smartest girl in the bar? Male and female mate selection criteria are different. Girls have sex selected guys to be smart but we didn't do the reverse.

Vapid is just fine.

In fact in the example it works out well. By asking whats that, she's signalled she is not going to be demanding so he has a good chance. From his side it doesn't matter if she is vapid or just performing vapid, he still has an excellent chance either way.

I'd say it all went according to her plan.

I can't stand that type. I will tell you a Secret, A lot of the reason these guys go for that kind of woman is that they are easy. Especially if they are airheads.

I wanted to get popcorn to watch these two, tbh. I was also tempted to take notes bc he was really just continually drawn in... She's clearly smart or she wouldn't be an art teacher, but this was ridiculous.

Having said that, there WAS a time I was out with a guy at a super divey burger joint and he ordered a soda pop I'd never heard of before, so I asked what it was and he told me... and he slid the bottle over to me and watched me have a sip. (It was awful...) And I had a few questions about it... Kept us talking for about 20min and he thought it was hilarious i never touched soda pop.
