Because we live in a politically correct society these days. Media has made it okay to appeal to insecure overweight women and delude them into thinking being unhealthy is okay. They'll give you that same old excuse, "well you know genetics play a part and you know certain diseases" it'll be excuse after excuse because accepting that they participate in an unhealthy lifestyle is too much responsibility. I find it hilarious how often the same excuse gets regertitated, apparently all the overweight people have bad genetics or diseases that contribute to their lack of activity all of a sudden lmao. They'll get defensive because their ego is in jepordy or shame other women who take care of themselves without failing to realize the reality of their bad habits.
to be perfectly honest i found this take very annoying... - the first first two quotes come from the daily mail and the independent (correct me if i'm wrong) which I personally don't class as credible sources - you pay tax... well done! so do the rest of us -.- i would like to take this moment to remind you that the tax you pay doesn't solely go to helping "obese people" however, if you would like to know where your tax money goes you can use this website as a guide https://wheredoesmymoneygo.org/dailybread.html the main point that annoys me about this take is that you are using the fact that you are a UK taxpayer to fat shame - if i were you i would be more concerned about how much things like smoking and alcohol abuse costs the NHS (and police for that matter)
There exists a counterculture of ignorant or illogical attitudes on any issue. Such examples are people against vaccinations, pro rioting as a response to police involvement with crimes, and the obesity acceptance being perpetuated by people like Tyra Banks, Oprah, Precious, etc... Personally, I just think it's because people want to fight about something. No matter how much evidence there is, people ignore facts, reason and common sense. Being obese is unhealthy, not beautiful. You don't need to respond to the unrealistic Barbie Doll figure mentality the media portrays as attractive by going in the extreme opposite direction.
Seems that you're being ignorant/illogical which is hilarious. What people find beautiful is subjective and having extra adipose tissue on your body does not make you overweight.
I'm not being ignorant or illogical. All I am saying is that society has manifested a backlash at the traditional standards of beauty to too extreme of an extent-so extreme that it's now seemingly pushing for people to WANT to look like precious instead of wanting to be healthy. If you want to be fat that's your choice, but don't try and convince everyone around you that they should think you're beautiful because of it.
There's a lot of factors that come into play for obesity. It can be genetics, a medical issue, and usually when an adult is obese it started as a child for whatever reason. They were sexually abused, bullied in school, didn't have any friends, etc. and overate to make themselves feel better. I'm not a huge fan of the obesity, and I always wonder how some people have let themselves get to that point of weight, but I don't pass judgement on them since that's their business and they likely are not happy with it either. I know it can be really hard to lose weight without a lot of motivation and will power.
Yes it has been a great money maker for cosmetic surgeons too. With the media's influence on society, it sends a message that "everyone should be skinny to be beautiful, or ripped like crazy if they're a man." So it has been great business for the cosmetic surgery industry. And it's been a great way for a lot of people to sell their diet and exercise programs.
You neglected to mention the money that fast food conglomerates, snack food manufacturers, soda makers, and coffee houses and others make off of selling their products, as well as all the Medical and Diabetes testing supply companies make off of all the medical problems that come with complications to obesity.
You are correct about plastic surgery, getting rich off of the "perfect image" just pointing out there are other interests that greatly profit from obesity.
Talk about tip of the iceberg, that's how big some women in the US ) are. Their panting going up stairs uses up oxygen and releases so much CO2, no wonder we have global warming.
Judge not lest ye be judged. Some people can't help their sizes, but the only shameful thing I see here is how you speak of others. May you always be perfect.
Oh ouch. Was that supposed to hurt? Yes. I'm not the societal form of beauty, but I am healthy. Things you assume or don't care to know make it to where I stay on the "overweight" side as you put it. Honey there are much worse things than being overweight. I'm happy. I have a beautiful family. I have a man that fucking worships me. I worry more about God and my community than being a bully or having so much vanity that I have to tear people apart to make them feel better.

Meh; I think peeps should be happy with what they are, some like to be thin... some like to be large.
Personally I think shaming someone for being fat or thin or anything really, is fucked up. we should all just live our lives and let others live theirs ^_^
Wrong. they are costing the NHS; a pooled resource that we pay into with taxes. they are not costing us money at all; they are costing the government. The NHS and the taxes we pay go towards funding it and helping us if we need it; not straight to overweight people, thus depriving us.

But even then; budget cuts in other sectors usually go to finance that kind of stuff.
I used to be fat! lol i know tv show but seriously i used to be one of those "oh it costs too much to eat healthy" BULLSHIT!!! my weekly WEEKLY food bill is around $22 thats a box of instant oatmeal, bananas, watermelon, a bag of frozen broccoli cauliflower and carrots and 2 bags of fajita style seasoned chicken it costs almost nothing to eat this clean i also drink nothing but water! I stay away from dumbfuck bullshit fad diet crap thats the stuff that costs alot! I eat 6 times a day 6 TIMES A DAY! I have heard every bs excuse in human literature as to why noone can lose weight and there is no excuse all there is is NO WILLPOWER! plus you have to realize when you make a lifestyle choice like this it takes sacrifice and time IT WILLNOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT!! eating like this i lost 40lbs in 3 months
The food available in markets tends to be processed and therefore encourages obesity, as does our 9-5 office lifestyle. Unless you live in a safe neighborhood or can go to a gym - both of which imply a degree of wealth, as does access to healthy food - it's hard to push away obesity. I say this as someone who lost almost 3 sizes and am still considered overweight by bmi measures. I was also on welfare for a long time because my family ended up in that situation; thank God that my mom knew how to cook nutritiously (the weight was brought on for other reasons but many poor people gain weight due to the food available).
American culture promotes the idea of individual choice (and individual failure), but we are still trapped in a system that allows less choice than you might realize.
I think if someone lives an unhealthy or fat lifestyle then they should be required to pay more money into the healthcare system. Just like smokers. If you want to live a destructive lifestyle then go for it just don't make me pay more money into a Healthcare system because you're a dipshit.
this sickens me, i don't pay taxes so they can be spent on lazy fat fucks who could very well walk 30 minutes a day and save the country billions of pounds. i'm not talking about chubby people or even slightly fat people, i'm talking about obese people, the ones that are a disease in our societies. i don't hate people for being unhealthy or sick, if a man has cancer and he can't work then no one can say shit about it but these obese people are comfortable with their obesity, they don't mind taking the taxpayers money while they live off of benefits. these people have a choice to lose weight, choose to try be healthy, set a good example for their kids but no, they'd much rather be air lifted out of their beds. fuck them
@PhiOmega No, you're just naive and are quite stupid to be blunt.
The first line of his/her sentence is "this sickens me, i don't pay taxes so they can be spent on lazy fat fucks who could very well walk 30 minutes a day and save the country billions of pounds"-The grammar is terrible (sign of a troll) and it's purposely meant to be offensive, not to mention none of it is factually accurate (another sign of a troll.)
I also clicked on his/her profile: She has no profile picture, has only been a member since March 24th (trolls don't last long usually), his/her MHO percentage rate is only 4%(Trolls pretty much never get MHO.)
I mean it's OBVIOUSLY a troll but I will applaud his/her for their efforts on this lengthy troll post.
1, bad grammar isn't the sign of a troll, most everyone on the internet uses shorthand rarely do I ever type full words or construct sentences that meet all of the grammatical rules
2, it was as offensive as ur reply to me, she was just being blunt, ... to be blunt
3, she's not spewing lies so your third point makes no sense, ur just calling her a lie, "he said, she said"
lastly, many people lack profile pics many people have low MHO's including me, and yes this person is new, but a growing audience on gag is a good thing, lets try n encourage them
@PhiOmega I'm saying if you look at EVERY FACTOR I listed, which were ALL SIGNS OF A TROLL, it's pretty obvious he/she is a troll. If they had just ONE of the signs of a troll, I wouldn't suspect as much. But when it's THIS obvious, there is no denying it.
Trolls must love you. You're the type of person who falls for them.
though im completely against skinny shaming people, i am also tired of people getting shit for being overweight. everyone is beautiful in their own right and deserve the same love and admiration regardless of size. yes, some people are overweight due to unhealthy habits, but there also people who simply get it from genetics. maybe they can't afford the same healthier options? also i know overweight people who can run in marathons and go to the gym. they are healthy and in shape they simply have a different type of body.
I am a personal trainer and I won a gym and just no stop making excuses unless you have a disease or something there is no excuse if you know overweight people that go to the gym they do not train hard enough do they go 6 days a week and only ever eat 1 unhealty thing a month I do not think so. being poor is not an option if you are poor fucking eat way less then and run for a couple of hours a day and learn calisthenics and practice it daily genetics are simply no excuse sorry.
calm down dude. just by your username i can tell you're a douchebag. does that offend you? someone making a rude judgement right away? "being poor is not an option.. eat way less" you sound so ignorant i would NEVER in my life train with you and i'm not sure how you even have any customers.
@lafemme I doubt @lamborgini15 is even a personal trainer. He's probably a teenage male sitting at home every day, eating junk food wishing he could get laid lol.
That is not the general opinion, it is the opinion of "the fat acceptance movement" that is being forced down on us as the general opinion. I don't think it's right to shame skinny girls, but it's sure not right to shame big girls either! Yes being overweight is unhealthy and yes they should focus on becomming healthier, but all this "You're big so don't you dare being okay with yourself" is horrible! Who says you can't love yourself AND focus on becoming healthy? Skinny shaming and fat shaming are both happening in society right now. Fat shaming have been around for years and no one cares, and when someone suddenly are skinny shaming, everyone goes crazy and are claiming that we are trying to make obesity beautiful. No kind of body shaming is okay, and anyone who does it are despicable human beings, even if it's hidden.
Also I have absolutely no with obese women calling themselves "curvy" it's just a word, Im not in any way hurt by them using it. A girl with no hips, breasts or ass can call herself curvy for all that I care. I honestly think people who have a problem with overweight people describing themselves as "curvy" should get over themselves.
Have you seen what society today see's as 'fat' or 'overweight '?
Every picture of girls that get called fat I would say have less then 10% bodyfat.
In a few year anorexia would will be called 'skinny-fat' ffs... All these people saying this girls fat when she hasn't got meat on her at all.. It pi**es me off.
I would rather a fat/ cubby girl then a skinny thing.
Show the world that. That proves nothing apart from a the bodyfat. But peoe are still calling skinny people fat when they're obviously not fat or even cubby.
People through around the words "Fat" and "Anorexic" way too much. Some of the women they call fat are obviously in a healthy weight range for their height or at least close to it and some women who are just slightly underweight are called anorexic. It's really sad to me to see so many people participate in these stupid skinny vs curvy vs fat battles, it gives people complexes and insecurities when they should just be encouraged to be healthy and not worry about being labeled fat or skinny.
I'm a pretty fit girl. And I think curvier, or even slightly overweight people are fine. They even look good in some cases. But I'll never for the life of me understand how a person can let themselves be obese. You know, bigger to the point where they need to have things custom made for them. I just don't get it. How do you even eat that much? How? I don't understand how. Like I said, slightly overweight people are fine by me. I think they look good in their own way, just like skinny people look good in our own way. But I DO look down on people who are so fat, it takes away from their quality of life. It's having no regard for the blessing of living.
Glad you finished off saying it takes away from their quality of life because that is so true. Obesity is extremely unhealthy and shouldn't be something that we support, ever. I think it's important to take care of your body and to treat it well. I think it's sad that people consciously let themselves become obese, more so for those who have no control depending on the situation... in the end, everyone should recognize that obesity is dangerous and can cause much harm to your body.
I'll sure get hate on that, but I don't think that being fat is beautiful. Indeed, we should not shame someone or bully them because they are overweight. You can be overweight because of an eating disorder or digestive issue. I totally understand and accept that, but I don't think that being overweight is beautiful. Neither is looking emaciated and dead-like. Yes, curves and muscles are beautiful because they portray health and hard work. Being curvy and 'round' or chubby, whatever you want to call it, is fine. But being overweight and almost completely deformed is not. I know that not everyone has control over their weight and I understand that, for many people, there is a lot of hardwork behind healthy body.
Society has a lot of agendas these days. Feminism for example pushes the point that women don't have to look, or try to look, like models and it's their bodies so they can do what they want with them. This is true but it doesn't mean overweight women should be made out to be "real women" while skinny women are criticised for how they look.
Someone criticising obese people, especially obese women, gets criticised by a lot of people and a lot of people are trying to make it clear that being overweight isn't a bad thing. But... it is. It isn't bad because women have to look perfect, it's bad because they're unhealthy and it impacts their quality of life and affects others (as you suggested).
There's a balance there that we seem incapable of getting. If you're healthy and happy, it's all good.
"Fat does not equal unhealthy" Scientifically speaking, yes it most certainly does. But I suppose it's less disastrous to get fat from eating too much healthy food than it is from eating a fast food rich diet.
There are people overweight and work out regularly and eat healthy. people would think they're obese but according to doctors, they're just fine, so fat doesn't always equal unhealthy, and just because your body has to work a little harder doesn't automatically make you unhealthy @remonster
They are still obese regardless of how healthy they are on the inside. Now, if they have a rare condition that makes their body store fat much easier than the general population I agree. But such cases are rare.
The more likely explanation is that they eat healthy, but too much.
Even when I weighed 135kg my blood work came back fine. But still... I got tired easily, found it difficult to tie my shoes and sweated like a waterfal on hot days. There's more discomfort to being obese than what's happening on the inside.
I'm talking about people who eat a recommended diet by professionals. They don't eat too much. That was my whole point in saying "healthy" because they eat healthy foods in a normal amount too. & alright @remonster
Dude. I've been underweight most my life and play sports yet I get tired and out of breath from a few steps. My endurance has increased a lot but tiredness can go both ways, but I'm not saying being on the heavier side doesn't pose risks. If you're speaking of obesity in terms of it affecting health then I agree but I just don't think people should shame overweight people. @remonster
@remonster It has to do with genetics. Everyone in my family is on the heavier side. I just got lucky with my genes. I used to eat the most but weighed the least. Having a "healthy" weight isn't just about eating right and exercising. Genetics are the primary facter. Some people don't stay slim unless they starve themselves because their body just stores fat naturally.
You are saying a lot of stuff, so would you mind providing a link says that women who have higher than 30% body fat and men with higher than 20% body fat, are healthy?
@dakota_the_rota I'm not saying that evryone with that are healthy, I'm just saying that they can be healthy with that BMI, and sure! I try and find one now. (: Just sit tight!
i know that fat shaming is a real problem but there comes a time when it should not be glorified by calling overweight people curvy like marilyn. Marilyn was not obese people need to stop blaming other people by saying they are being fat shamed because obesity is a problem
Sorry but I will never find obesity beautiful. People say that these days so that obese people won't feel bad about themselves and learn to accept themselves for who they are. The truth is obesity is a disease, what is so beautiful about that? Saying it is beautiful only encourages such behavior and about 1/3 of Americans happen to be obese/overweight and we have a rep to go with it. I actually didn't know entirely about the economical impact of obesity but I feel now it is something crucial to know since America's economy also struggles. I might just get down voted for this but I'm not and never going to consider something unhealthy and fatal as "beautiful".
Obesity is a disease so we shouldn't bring them up. Well eating disorders are just as bad so we shouldn't praise skinny people either. But then again I guess you would rather conform to society's double standards and shame one side the fence and neglect the other. can't expect people to stop being conformist sheep overnight
I'm not praising skinny people, I'm praising healthy people. Not everyone who is skinny is that way because of a disorder though, some people are naturally that way no matter how hard they try to gain weight. I focused on my obesity point because thats what this article is being directed too. I study this so I'm not just pulling everything I'm saying out of my butt. I don't say anything to shame on unhealthy people but to influence others to help improve our nation's overall quality of life.
@Mikaychay95 I don't necessarily "praise" healthy people either. I'm healthy and I'm a happy guy and I like myself. But I also know other healthy people who are mean-spirited and not friendly, where someone who is unhealthy can be the nicest person.
But you're uneducated, as the economy as nothing to do with obesity. That's all about corporate greed, politics and oppression. Quit citing false statistics you find on a Google search. You're a government-controlled sheep, what high school did you drop out of?
Wow it's one think to disagree with me but you don't have to insult me. Obesity DOES effect the economy but I'm not going to fight about it with you because clearly you are too ignorant to care. How dare you have the nerve to call me uneducated and nothing I posted came from google actually. You know nothing about me and clearly nothing about this subject. You are very low, I actually graduated top in my class from high school and I'm about to graduate college with honors while majoring in a subject that focuses on obesity so you can just fuck off and quit insulting me now.
I just assumed from your lack of knowledge, you maybe had a hard time graduated high school. The fact you graduated with honors speaks volumes. It proves our BROKEN our educational system is, as ignorant people can graduate with honors. I graduated from high school on the Merit Roll and from college on the Dean's list but that doesn't prove my point either.
And you still can't prove why obesity affects the economy. You just make the claim and don't even explain it or prove it.
I've even seen some people use the fallacy with how they affect the health system. With that argument, I guess skin-cancer patients also affect the health system, should we punish them too? After all, they should have stayed out of the sun, it's their fault. Should we do the same for skinny people who have a heart attack for eating too much junk food? What about alcoholics, smokers, junkies? Are they "harming" our economy too? With this logic, almost EVERY person is harming our economy.
We waste more time with the stupid comments of "everyone is beautiful no matter what" than on educating people on health issues and making them move their asses out of the sofa. It's not about how you look, it's about health, when are people gonna realize that. If fat was healthy, I wouldn't give two shits if you're fat, but reality is that if you're overweight, you're not in a healthy state. And yes, everyone is beautiful, but only if they're healthy.

though im completely against skinny shaming people, i am also tired of people getting shit for being overweight. everyone is beautiful in their own right and deserve the same love and admiration regardless of size. yes, some people are overweight due to unhealthy habits, but there also people who simply get it from genetics. maybe they can't afford the same healthier options? also i know overweight people who can run in marathons and go to the gym. they are healthy and in shape they simply have a different type of body.
I own a gym* not won a gym lol
@lamborgini15 Why do you care so much? It's their life, their choice. I bet you're a bigoted racist too, huh?
calm down dude. just by your username i can tell you're a douchebag. does that offend you? someone making a rude judgement right away?
I completely agree with you.
Yeah not really
campaigns.tribesports.com/.../...tleanfatwomen.png
Show the world that. That proves nothing apart from a the bodyfat. But peoe are still calling skinny people fat when they're obviously not fat or even cubby.
Girls with less than 10% body fat must be on fucking steroids or some shit, the average body fat percentage is 20-30 ish for women.
I believe in being healthy.
Skinny does not equal healthy.
Fat does not equal unhealthy.
If someone is obese, I will accept them but encourage them to accept their power to be able to change their lifestyle and be better.
Just as there are people who are naturally slim, there are people who really can't help being on the heavier side no matter what they eat.
The important thing is to not try to be skinny or gain curves but to be healthy overall in general.
Weight shaming goes both ways.
"Fat does not equal unhealthy" Scientifically speaking, yes it most certainly does. But I suppose it's less disastrous to get fat from eating too much healthy food than it is from eating a fast food rich diet.
Still, the former rarely happens.
You can be fat and fit for sure, but your body still has to work harder because of the extra weight.
In any case it's their choice and all.
@remonster
Yeah. Those people either have some comdition or are lying about their diet.
Fat-acceptance is a fad. I'm sure it will fade into obscurity sooner or later.
You're such an asshole I'm not even going to bother with you anymore. BYE.
