This is interesting and a little depressing. Since this kept coming up in topics, I thought it would be something objective and more so than just the definitions people are throwing around but it seems really shaming. Obviously very different conditions apply in different countries and I think they could have called it something more sensitive. It said I was most like someone from Belarus even though I'm from the United States. Anyway, what do people think? I think it's an oversimplification that takes things out of context and not fun to read at all but...I don't know. These arguments keep happening.

This is clearly an issue of deep insecurity for you. It is almost the only thing you talk about that I've seen. You have gotten a lot of people flattering you and other overweight women and giving you attention and I'm sure you will again here. You also get lots of over the top hate and I'm sure you will again here. Let me break it down for you.

You're not obese. If that's you in your pics, you look decent, even pretty. You won't have trouble getting a date with a decent looking, respectable guy as you are. Just don't shoot for the stars. A little more confidence and a little less self-consciousness about your weight would actually help. Men don't like a woman who needs constant reassurance.

That said, if you're telling the truth about your stats, you are a bit overweight and, yes, you do look it. being in denial about a fact everyone can obviously see because it hurts your feelings is not reasonable or mature behavior. If you ate less and moved more, you would lose fat and build muscle. You would be healthier and more attractive if you did so.

I think that's a balanced answer to what you're really looking for here. As for the BBC thing, yeah, it is interesting. It paints a picture of excess in some places and deprivation elsewhere and very different cultures when it comes to how people treat diet and exercise.

According to that site, an American woman who's 5'6" and 168 lbs. has a higher BMI (27) than 51% of women in her country and 88% of women in the world. If everyone in the world had her BMI, it would add 41,087,326 tonnes to the world's total human biomass. An American woman who's 5'8" and weighs 132 lbs. has a lower BMI (20) than 90% of women in her country 66% of women in the world. If everyone has her BMI, it would remove 44,162,326 tonnes from the world's total human biomass.

BMI is a worthless number because it is just weight and height. I am 6'5" 243lbs with a bodyfat of 9% going on 8% (athletic by definition). I have abs, I am lean as hell and this stupid thing says my BMI is 64 obese overweight. I have a mesomorph build, large bones 50" chest and 36" waist. There is no input that tells this thing that I am not a 243Lbs fat ass. So you asked what do I think? I say Ignore it. Measure your bodyfat and go by that. Country US I'll take em all (almost) but I want the tall one first.

It also doesn't take into consideration of frame size. I have a huge frame, and it adds weight to me as well.

By the way, I doubt you were a 64 BMI-You were probably a 24, or 34. Is that what you meant to say?

I know Body Mass Index (BMI) scales are already flawed, but what BMI scale does this use? It said I was a 33 obese? At almost any doctor I go to, I show up in the late 20's as "overweight", but not "obese." I don't know why we haven't moved passed these scales anyway, and solely use body fat percentage, AND where your body fat deposits.

I am probably a little too overweight. I'm 266 pounds at six foot, three inches tall. I have some gut on me. My body fat percentage is about 25 percent, but I also have a lot of muscle as well.

According to this, I have a BMI of 28, a higher BMI than 86% of men my age in the UK, and a higher BMI than 94% of men in the world. Most like someone from Croatia. But the BMI scale isn't very accurate because it doesn't measure fat - I'm nowhere near being overweight. Most of my weight is muscle.

Yeah but he also has ridiculously low bodyfat levels. I don't, and never have been bothered about being ripped anyway. I'm about the same height and weight as this guy:

@WhyYouLyin BMI scales also don't take into consideration of frame size. Two six foot guys can have completely different frame sizes (shoulder width, bone mass in general).

My frame is huge-a really wide frame.

That's true. Sometimes people are surprised when I tell them how much I weight because I don't look like I weigh as much as I do.

Same here. I weigh 271 pounds, but people guess me at about 240lbs, or so. I'm trying to lose some more weight, but I don't look near as much as I weigh.

I never trust BMI because I’m so big/thick boned and have very thick thighs but a healthy body, so they always tend to put me on the higher end of the scale nearing overweight when I’m really not... 😂
That’s why people should only use BMI with a grain of salt.

For the test I’m most like someone from Vanuatu when I’m from Sweden. But I’m below average on the Scale for UK where I live.

As one user said, 3,4 and 7 are the fittest and therefore healthier looking to be honest. But all the women in this picture have attractive bodies in my opinion. It is just that some of them are obviously overweight, or stringing along fat. The one to the extreme right, will be fat in a few years to come but she has a great bone structure which gives her the figure she has.

Oh wait, 5 and 6 aren't fat, they are very healthy, they just aren't built to be skinny, but some will never understand that since everyone thinks you can either be chubby or lanky.

There's a difference between fat and thick. all those girls up there are not fat, they are beautiful some of them are thick. Men tend to like thick nowadays. Fat is just when your 200+ lbs and completely unhealthy but if the girl is healthy yet still has some big thighs or booty and boobs or just some chub on the stomach its thick.

Also I disagree about the variety of healthy bodies because there is a point when you are too fat it becomes unhealthy, the girl on the far right not saying she is unhealthy but she could be healthier if she lost some weight.

BMI only takes in account your height and weight. It does not include muscle mass, how athletic a person is, how they look etc. For my height at most I should be 145lbs but feel and look better at 150lbs. At 145 my face looks sunken in.

I have a lower BMI than 96% of men 45-59 in my country and 76% in the entire world. I'm most like someone from Sri Lanka (I've been there, BTW).
