Does anybody else have extremely sensitive teeth?

..and I MEAN sensitive O.o

If I eat something warm, say toast. and then go and eat a biscuit my teeth are tingling for a good 10-15 minutes after. Anything cold out the fridge is a no no aswell and ice cream...long ago are the days when I could chomp through a frankie and bennys without screwing my face right up :(

Does anybody else have this problem? I'm going to make an earlier appointment at the dentist, somebody said it could be the wearing down of enamel :/

Your sensitive teeth may be coming from 2 issues.

1. You have a cavity that goes deep near the nerve of your tooth, and anything cold, sweet, hot...etc, will hurt. This would be a sharp pain, affecting only the tooth with the cavity.

2.You have receding gums. This is different than wearing down the enamel. It's physically difficult to wear down your enamel at your age unless you're eating rocks and sandpaper.

The area of interest is the lower part that is discolored.

Receding gums occur if you brush too hard, or if you use a very stiff toothbrush. Try brushing softer and longer, and use a soft bristled brush.

Then a person has receding gums, the base of the tooth is exposed, which lacks the solid enamel covering. The exposed tooth base is actually not solid. It is porous, with tiny tubules inside. When the base is exposed, any changes in electrolytes (from sweet, sour, salty things) will cause pain. So will cold, and heat.

To alleviate the pain, you need to plug up those microscopic holes, to stop the electrical conductivity from running through the tooth. Try special toothpaste like Sensodyne. It should help, but will not cure your problem.

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to write all that! :) I'll think about looking into getting a different brush and see if that makes any difference :)

They can be. There is a special toothpaste you can try called 'Sensodyne'. The sensitivity has something to do with very tiny capillarys in your teeth, allowing cold things to affect the nerves in your teeth. Sensodyne help fill these in... I would recommend it. And you don't have to use it your whole life...

brush with sensodyne tooth paste and yeah talk to the dentist. (guarantee they will tell you to brush with sensodyne and if it's bad enough they may have more drastic measures they can take)

I've used about every toothpaste for sensitive teeth there is :/ I have a feeling drastic measures might be needed lol.

My teeth are sensitive but not that sensitive. I can't chomp on ice lollys for long, but I can drink things that are very cold

Mine seem ridiculously sensitive lol it's silly if you can't even go from eating hot to cold :/
