Trouble sleeping? Getting worse?

I've had trouble sleeping for years, but it seems to have gotten worse in these past few months. Like even if I'm tired I can't sleep until my body is completely exhausted. Usually I'll be awake two, sometimes 3, days straight before I can finally sleep.
It really takes a toll on my body throughout the day. I feel like a zombie half the time, and my eyes are always dark with circles. My mom doesn't want me to use drugs for this issue because she thinks I'll get addicted or something, but I know I won't.
I just want to be able to sleep at night. I wish I could just lay down and pass out, but I physically can't. My body doesn't let me sleep.
What should I do? Should I try to buy sleeping aid medicine without my mom knowing? Or are there some things I can try to maybe go to sleep at night? Thanks.
