Well what's unrealistic. If you eat a 1000 cal a day for years and work out you probably will be thin and lean, but that's not healthy. Megan fox said herself, she thinks her diet is no fun and awful. So I don't think it's good promote the idea that that's how you should live.
Most models are underweight. Even the VS ones. And well maybe that's not unrealistic but it sure as hell isn't healthy either. That's the problem with it, it's promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. And you know what fashion magazines do then? They photoshop away the normal signs of thiness because people would find that concerning

No issue there, but the newer ones like ariel, meg, rapunzel or elsa have impossible bodies. Lollipop heads and waist so thin they wouldn't be able to walk in real life

You may say, "it's a cartoon, it's not supposed to be real" and yet those princesses set beauty ideals for little girls. Impossible ideals in this case.
Then there is this new thing with big butts. Most people aren't kim kardasian. I hate the current beauty ideal even more than the super skinny one, because what they want now is big boobs, big butt but tiny waist and slim everything else. Really? At least super thin models are proportional and therefore more realistic.
The internet is a bad place for that. Often they photoshop awesome butts on women and men believe that. Hell most women do.

I agree everyone can have a decent body if they put the work into, but VS models are not what you should aspire to as they are underweight. If you use them as a ground for normal weight, then you have an issue. And most people do just that

Well I hear it quite a lot. Look at p*rn where practically every actress has fake boobs. We see guys like pictures on Facebook and social media of girls with clearly fake and big boobs. Photoshopped big butts and small waists.

There was a question while back if guy prefered the butt of supermodels or bigger butts. And almost all of them said they prefer bigger, but only if she is slim otherwise. Same goes for boobs and that's no secret

1) being super model thin is unhealthy, because they are medically underweight.
2) They photoshop models to look healthier and more curvy, by i. e. expanding their boobs. That creates a false sense of reality and i. e. lead to people saying her photoshopped boobs are average when in fact for a girl her frame and size they are quite a bit above average. And it fools girls into thinking that's how their boobs should be when they are that thin
3) Being just thin isn't enough anymore. New trend is to be super thing but with a big butt and big boobs and that's just reality. It doesn't work that way, but many men believe it does. And there too images are heavily photoshopped and many people believe it. You would believe how often I saw that fake picture of Jennifer Lawrence I posted captioned with "that ass" and guys drooling over it in the comments. No one realizes that it's not real.

1) are you kidding? That's the point, photoshop distorts reality. They want their girlfriends to be as thin as her, but as bony as her, but that's not possible. The way nature hides bones is through fat. So bigger girls will go crazy trying to get as thin as her and thin will go crazy because they only see the photoshopped version and their bones are popping out way more. actually i've slept with women that have the similar breast area to karlie on the right. so its not unrealistic. regardless, get guys to compare thin karlie to actual slim karlie then. but it has to be a fair comparison. dont like last time get an unusually big boned woman and try to get a comparison with a smaller-framed woman with big boobs and butt, and then claim that that proves something

It sounds like you don't even have a real interest in understanding what you should already understand about what is actually unrealistic for many women. Never mind that, but your body is your own. Aside from the fact that you aren't a woman and the body type most promoted is not even close to being the same, everyones body is different. We have different body chemistries, all kinds of things happening that differ from one person to the next. We have different bone structures. Some people look not so hot and definitely the same as others at the same weights. We have different body shapes and distributions of fat. We have different limitations. One person may not be able to do the same level of exercise or the same type that you can, due to obvious and not so obvious physiological "problems". Therefore, their results will probably not be exactly the same. Any number of psychological or physical illnesses, conditions, etc. can make certain medications necessary, and those medications may influence hormones or body fat in a way that does match up with what hollywood says is best. I could go on. But mainly, women's bodies are photo shopped way more and women's bodies are expected to be perfectly sculpted, perky, etc. Just being muscular is relatively easy compared to losing weight AND trying to change your body shape. If you're born with it naturally, well thats another story.
To boil it down to laziness is lazy thinking in my opinion. to some degree, that is involved. But an approach that stinks of "hey! look at me and what I'm doing! If you don't do what I do and get these results, then something is wrong with you!" is not only so obviously self-centered, but ignorant as well.
You don't know anyone or their lives or their medical records. Hell, they may not even know the full extent of what is happening internally. So, take a seat and stay in your lane. Thats my advice. But it doesn't matter. To each their own.

If all bodies aren't the same, then why do you assume everyone has equal ability to achieve an "awesome body"? Wouldn't the fact of difference among everyones bodies and life circumstances imply that there are some with more limitations than others for achieving what is perceived to be an "amazing body" ?
Also getting in shape or even just maintaining weight is really different for everyone. Two people can eat the exact same diet and one can end up fat while the other doesn't. Why? Body chemistry. Some people have to put in way more work for weight loss/maintenance alone, never mind extra body sculpting. Thats one reason is really self-centered to use yourself as a measure for what everyone can achieve. You don't know how much more difficult it is for the next person to lose or maintain weight, never mind sculpt a body to some standard of perfection or an "amazing body". Living a healthy lifestyle is easier than having a perfect body in some cases. (Though I've known many hot people who weren't living/eating healthily) I know I put on weight really easily. I eat pretty healthily compared to most people I know, even though I like to eat a lot. My dad was skinny most of his life and even now in his 50s, he doesn't have a real problem with weight. He eats like a disgusting monster.
And this is like the running joke of my life. I've known so many "hot" people who really couldn't care less. Or even just people who are smaller than I am, because I'm on the fat side. One of my old roommates was hot, thin, everything in the right place. My best friend would stay over a lot and we would both just shake our heads and laugh at the irony. I was the one cooking vegetables, eating "clean" meals, generally watching which snacks I eat, etc. My rookie, bless her heart, ate like a 5 year old. I don't think I ever saw her eat a vegetable that wasn't fried and battered. She rarely cooked. She lived on bagel bites, pizza, pop tarts, chips, lots of alcohol, etc. Her only exercise was partying all the time. And this isn't rare for people in my age group. So forgive me but I have a general "bitch, please" response whenever someone talks about "lifestyles that make me fat." pfft, yeah right. Lifetsyle is a part of it, but you can't assume anything. You don't know anyones life.

It's not unrealistic, that's what people use as an excuse for not wanting to work at getting good body. It's like women who use the excuse "I've had children, that's why I'm fat." No, children do not make your ass fat, you sitting on your ass and eating crap makes you fat.
I think the term "Unrealistic" should not be thrown around so haphazardly. It's my opinion that most men prefer women with a shapely figure (moderate-large breasts, nice butt, shapely legs and a stomach that doesn't stick out much). The outliers seem to be the men that like the large/overweight women, or the men that like super skinny or petite little women. So saying "Unrealistic" is BS.
I've seen girls that are short and stout at the gym ( In fact I've currently been seeing one who I can't seem to take my eyes off of to be honest). The thing is, they will most likely never have a body like some of the people we see in the media; like the ones who are tall, blonde, skinny and do things like runway and modeling. It's genetics.
However, they work out and have a good diet, so they are able to work quite well with what they have, and to me they look very attractive. So it may be "Unrealistic" to expect them to look like super models, but it's definitely REALISTIC to expect them to at least make a moderate effort to look the best THEY can.
The term "Unrealistic" is just an excuse people use to be lazy. Some people just have to work harder than others in order to have a nice body. It's not fair, but it's just life. When you do put in the effort though, you get results; it just takes time and motivation.
It's not unrealistic, very difficult. For me, I worked on it and had determination and motivation. I just wanted an athletic and fit body type oi I worked at it and got it. But in order to do that I had to work out and exercise and make it part of my routine as well as eat right. People say its unrealistic because they never stick with it long enough to see results. Honestly, I didn't start seeing results until like months of training in. But I kept at it and years later gradually always improving. Unrealistic is an excuse, if you want something bad enough, you can get it.

well its all media and society breaking them down:P honestly, im seeing more girls at the gym now hitting it hard to just try and reach that "perfect body" in their minds when really its just killing their mental health to even hit the gym like that everyday, and on top of that, I bet they're either going to school or working or both. the only time I would actually give it 100% to strive for the "perfect media body" is if I had no school or work, just like celebrities. when they have to build their body for a new movie, they literally workout like its a full time job. Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavil worked out 8 hours a day to prepare for their movies Man of Steel and Hercules. Chris Pratt worked out 5 hours straight everyday to get his body ready for Guardians of the Galaxy. I just couldn't do that with my current lifestyle but people still try cause they want what the media portrays as perfection so bad to be liked by everyone because those celebrities are liked by many.
Most times people say unrealistic but don't realize that they're body shaming a certain group of people. I hate the term body shaming but I think it works here.
What creates unrealistic expectations are photo shop and modeling. However modeling and photo shop are abstract art forms in the fact that they aren't meant to portray reality but ideal beauty.
Also, different people have different bodies. You might be able to work out and become super muscly, but other guys won't ever get that built. This doesn't make one guy more right than the other, it just makes you different. Most people don't understand that.

For a lot of people, they don't like it enough for it to become a hobby. I play 9 instruments, but I don't insist everyone be musical. If that's something that's high up on your priorities list and that you're into, good for you, seriously. Everyone should have something they strive for. The real problem with unrealistic body expectations is that the media doesn't tend to a lot for the variety that exists in the real world even among only healthy people.

It can be unrealistic if you don't have the time in your schedule to put in the work, or the money in your account to buy the equipment or gym membership or pay the trainer needed to do the work. Also, there are different body types. Women with a square or pear-shaped figure will never be hour-glass shaped. Women with genes to be a bit on the thicker side are never going to be a size two. What is realistic for everyone: eating healthy, exercising if time allows for it. What is not realistic for everyone: a tiny waist, large or perky breasts, a bubble butt, a 100% flat stomach. . . etc. Also, not everyone was meant to fit into a size 2 or 4 or 6. Some women can, and that's great for them. Some women can't without extreme and most likely highly unhealthy measures--thus, for their particular body build, it's an unrealistic expectation.
Here's what's unrealistic: 24-inch waist, natural DDs and no cellulite. Or boobs and hips on a 5'9" girl who weighs 110 pounds. Anything else is doable, for a girl at least.
That said, I don't give two fucks about my muffin top anymore. I'm not gonna look down on guys who think it is a turn off though.

Some people are not meant to be thin, biologically. I lost quite some weight, and I stopped getting my period and my hair started falling out etc. And I wasn't too skinny, I was like 110 lbsat 5'3, which isn't underweight. So I gained the weight back and was like "Guys like curves, right?". Guess what, my body decided to fuck with me again... Instead of going to my hips, boobs and butt, the fat got stored on my stomach and thighs. And I work out too, not a star athlete or anything but still. Not everyone is meant to have a perfect body..

because men expect their woman to be a goddess. tiny anorexic waist, big perky boobs (no sag), perfect skin, big tight butt and a tight v*gina and virginity intact. and when we tell them their expecting too much, they tell us their not.
but when women expect men to have for example a fit body or a clean shaven face. they tell them that their expecting too much.
We can't do all that while we worry about our man, jobs, chores and our man's needs. We have lives too. we can't be just dolls that you could shapeshift into the 'perfect shape'. We have to take care of our jobs, chores etc.
Men are just unrealistic about their expectations. that's where the argument starts
i work long hours. i spend time with family, gf, friends. i have hobbies. but i still make time to get a kickass body and groom myself. if people can't be bothered its their life. but they shouldn't pretend its unrealistic. yeah sure if you have kids, you have less time. but thats a choice you make. its like saying if i decide to go out with my friends every night, i dont have time for a gf. that doesn't mean that having time for a gf is unrealistic
you're confusing whats realistic and whats expected. what you should expect depends on a lot of things. but that doesn't change whats realistic.
Men do not expect that. Women expect men to expect that.
Most men i know expect that. when their young maybe 12-24 they expect that because of pornos and stuff like that.
Men expect us to be perfect. take care of chores, kids, body, face, hair, job and their needs.(Ex/dad/suitors wanted me/mom/friends to do all the work while they lean on their couch, drink beer/drinks and watch a game while exhaust ourselves.)
But in reality. we can only do that for a short period of time. Eye bags start to appear and pimples start to pop out and the stress just keeps getting worst.

You know you used to imagine your lady to be the perfect woman once. probably when you were around 14 or so. Some men expect that. some but not all.
It's more difficult for women to lose weight. In order to give birth, we need to carry more fat, I guess. However, as a relatively fit individual, I agree, all it takes is a lot of gym time. It IS hard work though and a lot of people don't have the hours to dedicate to the gym.
I work out daily. I run, do ab work, and lift. I'm in shape. I have a flat stomach. I have abdominal definition. It just takes dedication and you REALLY have to want it and ENJOY working out. Which is something a lot of people just don't do.
I think what women mean, at least I do, is this idea of a woman having huge tits, tiny stomach and waist, big round butt, perfect thighs AND a nice face... is pretty much impossible. It isn't unrealistic to lose weight, get really fit, and get your BF % down very low as a woman, anyone can do it. But society makes women believe they have to look a "certain way" that is mostly obtained by plastic surgeries and enhancements. AND its sad a lot of guys look at these pictures and compare the average everyday woman with them.. Anyway as for being fit and healthy, there are no excuses, That is totally not unrealistic.
What's unrealistic for women is the Barbie doll/Disney princess sizes and proportions, as well as the photoshopped images (which again, changes their proportions). All that really IS unrealistic, plus really unhealthy to try to get.
What's unrealistic for men is again, photoshopped images in adverts and so on, being able to gain such muscles without steroids, etc! (You're the bloke here, so you can tell me the unrealistic body standards for men in the media)
What isn't unrealistic, however, is exercise and healthy eating. As you've already said, it's possible to get an amazing and HEALTHY body (men and women). However, so long as people are HAPPY with their bodies (and themselves - it's important to love and accept your personality as well as body) and it's HEALTHY, I really don't see the problem :) (For those who have unhealthy bodies, it's up to them if they want to do anthing about it, it's not fair for anyone to shame them about it) xx
Because when people say unrealistic body expectations, they actually mean a body that takes a lot of time and effort to sculpt.
It's not unrealistic, just very difficult to a lot of people or they can't be arsed, so they make up these phrases to feel better about their laziness.
yeah you're right. it definitely takes time and effort. but so does studying. getting a good relationship. learning to drive. getting a good career. so its weird that people obsess about body and single that out as being allegedly unrealistic. oh well.

Girls are always pressured to look good, men are not as pressured. but women tend to think that the only way they get a guy is with a good body, guys don't think like that. guys have to think, am I good enough, am I wealthy enough to support... whatever.
I don't get angry or say I want to be built just like this model guy in a shaving commercial. I don't care about that, I just want to be able to do the things I want to do, and that's it.
I'll just say that not everyone's body turns into a swan from going to the gym. We can't mold our bodies into whatever we want. If you expect a girl to look like Kim K but she has a skinny body type, it's not happening.

I realize you didn't say that. Many young guys think they can be the rock though if they work out hard enough. It's not happening.
I disagree with you. I'm just not attracted to some girls bodies no matter what they do. I'm not talking about their face. Body types are really just as important as your training and diet. Those things allow use to work along our certain threshold in our body type potential. By body type, more specifically I mean genetics.

Unrealistic for WOMEN. It's pretty easy for men to build muscle mass since during puberty that's exactly what they gain most of without even doing anything, while women get fat instead of those blessed muscles you get... so... please...

It really isn't unrealistic for either men or women, it just takes a lot of effort. If a 200 lb woman spent an entire year working out seriously 1hr a day for 3 or 4 days a week while also eating healthy (NOT starving herself though), she could get down to 130-140 by the end of the year. A guy could do the same thing. And not all guys build muscle easily. I'm 24 and I'm just now starting to build muscle, and it's only because I've been training like a maniac 5 times a week every week for the last 3 years while also being really strict about eating the right nutrition. As a kid and young adult I was always either super skinny or fat, but never any muscle. It'll probly take another 2 to 3 years of constant hard work to reach a "great" level of physique. Most people aren't willing to put in the amount of effort it takes to get in shape, if they aren't naturally that way. I was born with bad genetics but I'm turning myself around. Anyone else can too.

Everyone can work out and obtain fit and healthy bodies. However, there are some things you can't naturally do. Men can't grow taller. Women can't grow bigger boobs. Those are the unrealistic expectations.

Thigh gaps are unrealistic for some seeing as it depends on the width of your pelvis... anyway that kind of shit is ridiculous. Comparing yourself to the covers of magazines is like comparing yourself to a unicorn cos that shit isn't real.
People just need to strive to be fit and healthy. Focusing on isolated body parts is unrealistic. No matter how much I work out, I will not have a massive ass because its not in my genetics. I'm happy with small and firm.

The hard work is possible to obtain the body you want while having a balanced life... it's all about making the necessary sacrifices that others won't.
BUT... there are natural body shape and natural body building limitations that each person has (u prolly know this first hand as certain body parts build more quickly or more slowly than others).
Well a lot of it does come down to genetics and not everyone has the time to go to the gym or monitor their diet. It comes down to what people prioritize. But at the end of the day I think everyone has unrealistic expectations of each other. That and mother nature's a bitch.

They'd rather complain about fit people being seen as more attractive, complain about how unfair it is that they "can't" have achieve those kinds of bodies, and carry on eating shit and not exercising enough. Or worse, they'd rather blame their body type, and they act as if it's harder for them and as if fit people get their bodies effortlessly/were born that way, when in fact it's just because we work harder.
Having thighs that measure to 20 inches around or being 6'0 and 100 like a Barbie are unrealistic. Now you could definitely get there, but it's not really healthy. So it "not realistic" for a healthy body

A lot of it is laziness. They blame it on the media, but most people know what what is in the media is photoshopped. It's not hard to work out, and healthy enough to have a good body. I can understand why teens might be affected by the media but adults should know better.

Not everyone can go to the gym. It can be because of money problems, or social anxiety, or 1 million other things. And you can work hard everyday, and still not get longer legs, big perky boobs, smooth skin, small shoulders etc.
if you can't go to the gym buy some weights.
if its money... if you're in school, school gym is always affordable, sometimes even free. anyone with a job can afford gym or buying weights. if you haven't even got a job you'd better worry about that before you even think about getting a relationship

I do disagree with you about exercise. Its not hard to take 30 minutes a day to go for a jog or something.

Have you not seen gymnasts' bodies? They look awesome, all simply bodyweight exercises. Of course not everybody can look perfect - nobody expects that. But everybody can get in good shape if they try.

Fashion magazines cut actual images down, so the models appear to have a godly figure, which is unrealistic. These images and their egos cause them to strive to be like those models, and that's unhealthy.
