It's a gym. You're supposed to exercise there. If guys stare, that's their problem. As long as you're wearing gym appropriate attire and not acting like you want the attention then no one will think you're a slut.
Do your thing chica, you have to get in there role up you sleeves and teach these has been's a thing or two about proper form, plus having a nice ass around motivates the troops moral.
Squats could be done anywhere outside the gym, if you're worried about attention from men - because a woman in a predominantly male space (the gym) will always get unwanted attention.
