+1 yFirstly there's no such thing as "boy's push ups" and "girl's push ups". Taking them on the knees is wrong. Why? I get to that now
When doing push ups you MUST have a straight back, or else it will over time cause back pains. When taking them on your knees you lift your ass too much, causing a curved back. And as said, not good.
So either you take push ups, or you don't. NEVER do the push up look-alike by doing it on the knees.
So, over to you. I suggest you stop complaining, and does it properly. Sure, you won't take as many as the guys, but 5 done right is more worth than 30 on your knees.
And if you can't do proper ones, you're in an awful shape. Every adult person should manage at least 10 proper ones on a normal day, and yes, that DOES include you girls too.
So your gym teacher is doing his job instead of treating you girls like pusses. Would that be better?95 Reply
Asker+1 yI'm not an adult though 😑
- +1 y
How old are you?
If you're 13-14 you're at an age where guys haven't really started puberty yet, and you should be as strong as them. And at 15+ you should be strong enough to do it. If you aren't, then you need those push ups.
In short, quit complaining and do as you're told. It's supposed to be painful, and it's supposed to be hard.
Asker+1 yMy gym class is mixed with freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. I'm 14.
- +1 y
Then you should be able to do them. Maybe not a lot of them, but still some.
If not, then you need to improve your chore muscle and arm strength.
At your age my class were expected to do them right, no questions asked. If we were told to do 10, then we did 10. And if you couldn't do 10, you did as many as possible.
You should do the same. Muscles come from hard work, not shortcuts and whining. - +1 y
Right on @dartmaul15

The reason is pretty simple: it's (most likely) modern feminism and government at work trying to make males and females 'equal'. Males and females are NOT equal. They are not built the same way. They have many biological differences that require different considerations than males do, not better or worse just different. That isn't to say they shouldn't have the same opportunities as males do but to treat males and females as if they are not distinctly different is irrational because they are. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. It's ridiculous.
18 Reply- +1 y
What? I can do a regular push-up just fine.
- +1 y
@musicbrain5 I didn't say you couldn't. I said that males and females are different biologically. And I said that because it's true. You being able to do a pushup doesn't change the fact that male and female physiology is different fundamentally.
Males are largely driven by testosterone (the hormone that results in muscular strength and aggression) while females are mostly driven by estrogen (the hormone that is responsible for more feminine and passive physical and mental characteristics) in essence it is the opposite of testosterone.
Females that have too much testosterone can have adverse effects including:
-Obesity
-An apple-shaped body
-Excessive or thinning hair
-Acne
-Menstrual irregularity - +1 y
Basically any and every women should be able to do push ups. You can't tell me that people have been around for hundreds of thousands of years and women are basically incapable of push ups
- +1 y
@ihatethiswebsite I never said females are or were incapable. Many females are very capable. What I am saying is that males, biologically, are much more adept (in a general sense) at physical activity, like pushups, than females are because of their genetic makeup. That does not make females inept. It makes them different.
This is why males, for the most part, are larger and stronger. This is not a coincidence. This is a scientific fact. There can be some overlap between males and females however as there are more masculine females and more feminine males. A prime example would be female weightlifters. The stronger they get the more testosterone their body produces causing them to develop more masculine features like facial hair. Also similar is when males have too much estrogen they can begin to have fat accumulate in the chest region much as females do.
The bottom line is that it's okay if they don't want to be treated like males are because they aren't males. - +1 y
You act as if making a girl do regular push ups is ridiculous. They are push ups, not the most difficult thing in the world unless the individual is way out of shape. Everyone already knows guys can do more but women should still be able to do push ups, just not as many as a guy typically would
- +1 y
@ihatethiswebsite I think "making" anyone do anything like that is ridiculous, male or female. That's the whole point behind a free country. I will extend that by saying that it is irrational to expect the same from males and females because they are not the same.
The science is clear. The majority of females will have more difficulty with that sort of physical activity than males because of biology. To believe something other than that is false, until and unless males and females are genetically altered. - +1 y
Well it's gym. They are not gonna let all their students sit on their butt and do nothing
- +1 y
@ihatethiswebsite I didn't mean to imply that this sense of 'political correctness' doesn't extend to government run schools... because it does, very much so. Bureaucrats think they understand and know what's best for us better than we do. From here on out though this is opinion.
I believe in personal liberty and I don't want the government deciding what they think I need, including physical fitness. I'm more than capable of making my own life choices.
+1 ymy gym teach in middle school was the same way. i did really sad sad excuses for pushups. that's stupid to hold everyone to the same standard like that. some girls can do pushups on their toes and there are probably some guys who can't. it should be allowed to adjust it based on ability. it's like taking an entire 8th grade class and putting them in algebra I (average 8th grade math is pre-algebra) - you can't expect everyone to be able to do the same things. >:(
01 Reply- +1 y
Hence why not everyone take the same number of push ups. 2/3 of max rep is good. For some that's 30, for others 3.
Do them right, and adjust the number
347 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Since when are pushups only for males? Girls can be just as or stronger than males. If you can't do them, put your knees and the floor and stretch out forward and do it that way, keeping your back straight. If it's still too hard, move back onto your knees more.
I do them like this in kickboxing if I'm not up for the full pushup. It's fine and doesn't cause back problems.
www.fitbie.com/.../knee-push-up-b-ex.jpg03 Reply- +1 y
That is a knee push-up, not a "girl" push-up. Fuck the teacher, if this is the only way she can do one, then she should do it. If he continues pestering her about it, then she should report him. Any person who knows a lot about fitness knows that people have different abilities and pushing yourself to extreme lengths or everyone to the same lengths, is how injuries take place. That is what should be reported to the head.
- +1 y
That was in reference to the title.
And while I understand what you are saying, I also remember physical education in school. Lots of people doing the minimum amount of effort they could get away with. The comment sounds like the teacher might have tried to motivate her after feeling she wasn't giving it her all.
Since I wasn't there, that's where I'll stop my speculations.
+1 yohh come on be strong push ups aren't that hard and they will benefit you just inhale and exhale and go for it it will make you stronger and it is good to let our muscles work from time to time so put a smile and show him that you can do it and your strong and he will say "hey everyone learn from her" :) and remember that nothing is impossible you only need to practice

There's no such thing as a "girl pushup", that's just called being a wimp. Yes, average men can do more pushups than average women, but women are highly capable of doing pushups. If you asked me to do 30 pushups right now, I could do it. This just means you need to work out more.

+1 yThere's girls that over power certain guys. At my school all girls have to do push ups. If you do them the lazy way your not working your muscles properly. You need to learn to do it right. The most push-ups I've seen a girl do was 15. Girls arms are usually skinny that's why you should lift weights and work your biceps. Push ups work your biceps. I've seen girls that couldn't even do 1 full push-up and that's normal. Girls that do sports are more fit and work their muscles more than non athletes. If you want to build you biceps try getting a dumb bell that's 2.5 pounds and work it. That's not a lot of wieght. Work your way to 5 pounds.

+1 yIt's not actually a boy push up, just a harder more muscle building version of the same exercise. The gym teacher though sound rude.
What could help is to practice them at home. It doesn't have to be as lot at a time. Two or three then a break then two or three and call it quits.. Try that a few times a week for a couple is months and see if it helps..00 Reply
+1 yWhy don't you just fucking shut up and do it?
Girls are better at guys than push ups anyway. In the past, there were few girls who didn't want to try to hard when doing push ups.
The girls that came after didn't believe in themselves so they couldn't "do" it either. There is a story about that, but that is for some other time...02 Reply- +1 y
Your face is a false representation of a females.
+1 yTbh at my school it was just push ups they never categorized girl push up or boy push ups everyone just did "boy pushups" :)
70 Reply"boy pushups" means proper push ups. You don't get fit by taking the easy way out. Plenty of girls can do them just fine and the only way to get upper body strength is by pushing yourself.

It's dirty feminists you have to blame for all this gender equality.50 Reply
+1 yFirst of all, they're not "guy push-ups" they're modified push-ups. Just cause they're easier doesn't mean they're for girls. You need to do normal push-ups to get stronger. if you can only do two push-ups, fine. But doing that everyday will help you get stronger and you'll be able to do more
01 Reply- +1 y
Girl not guys I n the first sentence. Sorry
Its all about exercising. I do easily series of 20. If you lack arm strength, start doing them your "girls" way, but after some time switch to the "boys" way. But you will need practise. Strength does not come out of heaven.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yEvery time a female asks this question, here goes the guys using the "feminism" example or saying that we complain too much. For future references, don't call them "boy push-ups". Do what the teacher says regardless of how hard it is. We're more flexible by nature so you can always push yourself.

Quit complaining and take advantage of this, you have high expectations, dammit. Women are not weaker than men, in fact many women inist the opposite. Now act like your an equal. Other women can do them just fine, what's your excuse?10 ReplyThis is why our women ancestors fought for our equal rights. I personally have no problem doing a push-up, which by the way is the push-up that does not involve being on your knees.
