My fitness includes:
- tennis, crossfit and mtn biking.
I've been playing tennis for about 9 years, mtn biking 5 years and crossfit 2 years.
Now i've tried everything from running, swimming, surfing and spin classes.. and the 1 advice i have for you is to choose something you enjoy and not just because something is the best for shedding weight.
The only sustainable activity for healthier and active life is to enjoy whatever it is you're doing! It can be yoga, zumba and whatever!
My advice is to go out and sample all the different activities and the one that you like the most? Go for it! If one day you feel "this isn't for me" anymore? No sweat, move on to the next!!
Yes... running is great cardio but you know what? it's boring !

Either or is technically fine.
My only criticism is that I personally feel crossfit exercises practice "bad form" on their exercises and that people get injured doing them. But they can be good training circuits for athletes. I've read some of their workout things and they're big on supersets it seems and their workouts can definitely be exhausting I'm sure. So I'm gonna say go for swimming because I'd feel it was safer.
You've already been altering your diet in the right direction, so just keep seeing what you can do to tweak it more and more to the healthy side and you should progress.
You can do both. Try it out and take what you like the most. But do not focuss on weight. You may get a lot of muscle mass from it. You will look better and more toned, but the scale may not show it. Muscle is a lot heavier than fat.
Actually by doing that u may gain weight building bulky muscle but u should try pilates it slims u down way faster and you build lean muscle meaning you'll look thin and toned goodluck i know u can do it :) :D

I love swimming, great low impact workout with a good balance of cardio and muscle building, I swim about 10km of drills a week and have lost weight doing it, so I'd go with that.
Besides, crossfit is a weird exercise cult, Everyone I know who started it either gave up after a few weeks or became obsessed with it and wouldn't shut up about it. I think you should be able to get in shape without turning into a monomaniacal narcissist.I say do swimming, you burn an average of 1500 calories an hour swimming. That will definitely shed off the pounds.
I like to cycle an swim
