I think the best option for you is swimming. Swimming helps lose weight, burn calories and puts little stress on your body. I was using this mething when I decide to lose few kilos. But if you are just a beginner then you need some swimming equipment. I buy kickboard online. It is as a training aid for you.=)

Any aerobic exercise is good. I heard swimming is really effective because your body burns a lot of calories keeping itself warm. Some nutritionists were surprised by Michael Phelps's calorie intake since it seemed too high even for his amount of activity, but they realized it was for this reason.
High intensity cardio... have your heart rate sitting between 140-160 for 30 minutes plus, interval training does wonders too

Interval training is the most effective type of training I know of if one wishes to burn fat. Basically you all out sprint for a short period of time, walk, all out sprint, walk, and again. You don't need to do dozens of these, 8-10 should be *more* than enough for most people. As an added benefit, this type of training secretes the neurotransmiter BDNF (brain derived neurotropic factor) which stimulates the growth of new brain cells and guards against neurodgenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
We doing free weights and cardio son. We are going to lift heavy ass weight and get fucking jacked.
Swimming is also one of the best full body exercises on the planet so do the hell out of it. Drink plenty of water as well you'd be amazed at how fast you can get dehydrated in a pool.

Losing weight means burning fat and not gaining muscle, the best case would be doing incline treadmill, stairs, or elliptical. 30min+, swimmings not necessarily good for weight loss.
