I got into a car accident, I have pain in my neck, back and sides of my rib cage. What should I do?

I got into a car accident last Monday and ever since I have been been in pretty chronic pain in my neck, back, and sides of my rib cage. The pain had not subsided at all, what to do?

Go to the hospital

Go to the doctor

Go to the chiropractor

So I was coming home from a trip with my family and we were going pretty fast on the highway when the person in front of us stopped short and so we had to stop but the person behind was going, you know, highway speed and he crashed into the back of the car. I am pretty petite, and I was wearing a seatbelt but it didn't lock so I was thrown forward, and then back into the seat.

Update: I've heard there is nothing the hospital can do except give me meds, and my mom is very anti-hospital

This was a week ago. It is not an emergency condition, but it is very urgent. Call your doctor on Monday morning and explain the problem. He may want you to get imaging (CT Scans or MRIs) immediately, or may ask you to come in immediately. Or you can call right now and leave a message with his message service which will pass the message on to him. He can make a call on what to do.

You should have contacted him immediately. I don't know why you waited so long.

get to a doctor, you could have allsorts of things wrong from minor fractures, broken ribs or internal bleeding. also how old is the car you was travelling in. if still quite new you may be able to claim damages from the manufacturer because the seat belt didn't work.

+ See if there are any massage therapists, they should be able to do both light and deeper work on your muscles, this will help the so shock "response" to clear out. (probably need several visits)

I suggest Massage over the chiropractic as Chiropractic is harsher on the body. (ps. often they work in the same clinic or building)

You should have gone to the hospital when the accident happened, if it wasn't your fault you could sue the other person involved and insurance company would have to pay you some money, depending on the damage that was donde including youserlf that is why it is important to go to a doctors as soon as it happens

OMG! That is so scary! People on the highway fly! I'm glad you are ok. Have a relative take you to the hospital and have them sign a release form of info so they can know what's going on with you and you can get the proper medical attention you need if your mom is anti hospital. This is same in a docs office. They can guide you from there.

You have some whiplash, it's not a medical emergency so don't go to the hospital. Make an appointment with a doctor and they should be able to give you some painkillers and give you advice on how to alleviate symptoms.

Go to a doctor since you can still function, but the pain is not improving. You may be admitted to the hospital if the damage is severe though and you need surgical treatment.

if it's serious, unbearable pain then Id go to the hospital. but if you can hold out for a day or 2 then Id call the doctor and set up an appointment
