red potatoes instead of brown, or better yet sweet potatoes. Switch the iceberg lettuce for more darker greens. When eating vegetables, the more solid the color the better it is in nutrition. Keep the white bread, whole wheat is not scientifically proven to be healthier. Just slower to digest. I also tend to eat a lot of oatmeal ( no flavor) and brown rice. Also try to add some black eyed peas or other peas like red beans, lima bean.
For protein, I buy a lot of cans, like flakes of turkey for 1.19( 32 grams) and I eat a lot of chicken legs and eat eggs as a whole.
Big fan of the following:
Porridge
Vegetable/chicken soup (homemade)
Brown rice
strawberries/grapes
Pineapple (I make my own OJ from it with carrots, apples, lemon and lime)
Nuts (all kinds, especially almonds, brazil, walnuts)
Bananas (post workout, not pre)
green tea
Whiskey - for when I really need to forget that bitch I work with who does nothing but whine all day.
My typical food intake is; eggs, spinach, cheese. coffee or green tea. Then carrots (try the big raw organic ones the baby carrots are soaked in chlorine, but that's just a side note) bell peppers, raw broccoli and cauliflower, cucumber, peanut butter, almonds, raisins, banana, chicken, pineapple, corn, zucchini, potatoes, tomatoes, onions.
That's basically what I buy with spices and mix it up sometimes.

Oh, and make sure you are getting dietary fiber and your ratio of soluble and insoluble fibers is right. Fiber levels out the digestion of carbs, providing a more even delivery of energy.
