You don't actually have to do any ab workouts to tone your abdominal, doing squats and chest press will workout your abs enough. To be able to see your abs has much more to do with your body fat percentage then anything else, which is determined by your diet. Cardio is good for burning calories and strengthening the heart, but it's also not necessary. Though you should do some form of of cardio.

Ab exercises will help strengthen your core and also help build your abs, doing cardio such as running, swimming, walking, or playing sports will help show your abs because you'll be low bodyfat. Once your at 11-13% you can see your abs a little, once your at 8-10% you have visible abs, anything below 7% and your fucken shredded
