I have consumed nearly 4-5 diet sodas per day for 30+ years. I drink about 12 sugared sodas a year, mainly Coca-Cola from Mexico that has sucrose and not corn syrup. Healthy as an ox, get a physical each year. Mineral/electrolyte balance superb, no signs of diabetes, mildly overweight (due to a low thyroid condition genetic, symptoms since a teen). Good genes. This "one-size-fits-all-be-very-afraid" tactic is not accurate.

I drink several cans every day. Considering all the warnings from non-health experts and blogs written by idiots, virtually everything can kill you. I'd rather live a great life slaughtering a cow and cooking it over a fire, eating the food I love and dying early vs eating quinoa and gluten free garbage and hating every moment of my life.

I think there are a lot of warnings because Americans are alarmingly overweight, and they think soda has some role. I didn't realize it before, but a sizable number of people basically replace the amount of water they should drink in a day with soda. Like 4 12 oz cans +. That's a lot and if a lot of people do it, I suppose it's worth putting all the health effects out there.

Oh dang. Yeah, I think those ads are meant for people like that. As a sidenote, I always wondered about the claims that diet soda makes people gain weight. It makes me think of "chicken or the egg?" I assumed it's just overweight people tend to drink diet and not that the diet soda caused the overweightness. I don't know.

with the diet soda. I heard it actually tricks your body into thinking it has consumed calories, but it hasn't. So when the body realizes it hasn't, it gets even more hungry lol. Or you have a mentality of oh I saved calories here, I can eat another slice.

from experience, after I stopped drinking diet soda so much, I was less hungry lol

ah thats pretty interesting. that's possible. sometimes when it comes to food, i think it can be hard to make a one size fits all statements. they always say whole wheat food makes you feel fuller... never felt that. that dairy and chocolate can cause breakouts... never affected me. "nothing in excess" seems like the best motto.

I rarely drink soda. I usually stick to water, juice, milk, and sometimes tea. It's not really because of the nutrition, lol; I just prefer the taste of non carbonated drinks. The rare times I do drink soda are usually when I need a bit of caffeine haha.
