A month ago I went to the doctor (I am pregnant) and asked the results of a blood and culture test for herpes. My doctor was very loud even though the door was closed. She was almost shouting that I tested positive for HSV1 and negative for HSV2. She repeated it more than once. I was hoping that none of the patients in the other rooms heard it. I let that slide. Today I went to the doctor again and she told me that I need to take a medication for herpes since I have a history of taking the medication so that I can have a healthy delivery. She said all of this out loud in front of the nurses and front desk staff. I believe there were other patients waiting to see her also. I was speechless and embarrassed. She even showed frustration because I was confused about actually having herpes or being diagnosed just in case. She was practically shouting my info! I just want to know if there's any actions I can take for her leaving my info non confidential. I have to go back to the doctor to get my prescription and I will like to speak with someone above her but I'm not sure how to go about this.
You should probably ask the front desk personnel so that you do not have to go through your doctor first. Also, before that you can call HIPPA and report too because it's a violation of those privacy laws.

The only recourse that I'm aware of is the AMA. The may or may not investigate it. If she is found to have broken any rules they can pull her liscense to practice
