My boyfriend is awkward around me?

For the longest time, I had a crush on a guy that's a year ahead of me in school, I'm sophomore this year, and he's a junior. Now, up until about midway through my freshman year, I liked his brother, who is in the same grade as me. His brother is more like me, he's really funny and easygoing, nice as can be. But I started noticing the older one more and more. He's usually very quiet, but he has a bad temper, especially when playing sports. He can be very mean sometimes, but when it's just the two of us he's as nice as can be. He's embarrassed by who I hang out with (I won't lie, I hang out with some people who kids at school think of as weird) but they're fun and they make me laugh. He gets embarrassed by things that I say, and since we've started dating he hates it when people reference to it. I can see in his eyes that he gets embarrassed. When we kiss, it's almost awkward because he seems to be too shy to grab me Maybe that can be explained away by inexperience. When I text him, he usually doesn't text me back until after I'm asleep. At school we barely talk anymore. But he tells me when we're alone how much he likes me. I really do like him, aggressiveness and all( let's face it, aggressiveness in a guy can sometimes be sexy). But if he likes me as much as he says he does, then why does he act the way he does? Is it because he's shy period, or because he's embarrassed that he likes someone like me? Oh, and I'm pretty sure that I'm the first girl he's dated. So what's wrong, and what should I do next?
