I grew out my hair.
Believe me on this one I used to be quick to anger and completely unable to keep myself together.
Then I grew out my hair and during the long and hard process of doing it I learned patience. I got used to endure bad times and eventually mastered the ability to always take a moment to consider my actions.
Okay I'll grow my hair again. I wore hair long for a few years before I have it short just last year.
You're right. When it's tangled, it's better not to just pull and break. (My hair is curly. And when it's dry from coloring, it's a nightmare.)

To me, if I want to control myself, I need a precise and good goal. For example, I would not try things like No Nut November because I don't see any good goal, any purpose in doing that. However, even though I love food, I managed to lose 5 kg by fasting at times, which took me quite a bit of will power but, because I had a precis goal that mattered to me, I did it and I succeeded.
What's something you are addicted to doing? Put it on your desk for a few months and abstain. Porn is always on the desk (computers) so abstaining from that is a good method, but it depends how addicted you are. I did it with alcohol. Try it with meat maybe? Don't eat meat for a year. You wanna build willpower? That's how it's done.
I tried watching some pro-vegan documentaries. What food industries are like. Cow puss. Peta vids. They don't work at all.
I can live without eating meat for a week. That's all.
I don't know if I have any tricks ... other than knowing what I can or can't do ! What is morally correct and ask my self if I can live with this or that decision!
I just set goals and achieve them. The goal is the motivator.
