Dealing with Food Allergies

Anonymous
I have a friend who is allergic to tomatoes. Hence, tomato sauce for pasta/pizza, ketchup, and all the common tomato based foods are off limits. Lots of people are allergic to dairy products, which eliminates a lot of foods they can eat. I would have a hard time giving up tomato sauced pasta and diary myself. So this had me wondering how couples deal with a situation where one person has a big food allergy when the other doesn't? Do/Would you make two separate meals when cooking? Does the person without the allergy simply just not eat/fix foods with the allergic food in them, hence not eating pizza or pasta or something?

I guess you could apply this question to people who are on a restricted diet as well.

I myself would have a hard time giving up a lot of foods. I also find the idea of cooking two meals to a pain because it doubles your dishes and just means more work/time. So I was curious what people do in this kind of situation.
