Is it harder for Asian guys to build muscles?

I have an Asian friend who takes whey protein and like 3-4 supplements daily. He's been doing this for about 4 months now and honestly he doesn't look much bigger at all. I don't believe in taking supplements and protein because its all synthetic. He works out at least 5 days a week.

I rarely ever work out and when I do its really sporadic. Like I'll work out hardcore for 2 weeks and then stop for a month. I don't take any protein or supplements. The funny part is that I'm a lot more toned than my friend. I always have had really toned muscles without even trying.

And I'm not trying to be racist or anything like that. I'm just wondering.
Is it harder for Asian guys to build muscles?
