What you think is the real reason people don't appreciate muscles on women?

Iam not seeking here for any validation about me and my partner. But trying to understand the mindset. If the peoples opinion is based on their society or the background they come from.
Following are the reasons i found with personal experince after interaction with people and their comments and reactions.
1-----They have their won beauty standards degined for women in their mind which do not match with a muacle women.
2---- They feel threat to their musculinity when a women is stronger and has muscles.
3---- They just go with the society sterotypes amd never give a thought about it.
4---- It hurts their male ego and think its embarressing fot them and are scared of society reactions and comments

Most men find this acceptable on women. This isn't "muscle," though. It's tone.

Interesting question! I thought it was an interesting question before I realized you had any sort of personal stakes in the answer. I didn't realize you happened to be dating a muscular woman. Don't worry, that doesn't change my answer. It just makes me feel like I owe you a (somewhat) thought out answer.

So, I find the results of your own research into why men don't appreciate muscles on women, and to be honest I was a bit surprised that you found so many different answers. Or... more accurately... I assumed everyone would have the same reasons I happen to have. Totally unjustifiable assumtion on my part. I had no right to be surprised. Nevertheless, I was surprised.

So for me, it's absolutely 100% the 'first reason you suggested'. It comes down to having developed my own ideas of 'female beauty' (or, more accurately 'have been socialized to internalized'... not really 'developed my own'). An overly muscular girl clashes with those 'beauty standards'. That's really what it is for me.

Now, I did find it interesting that you found guys found it threatening to their masculinity either internally, or in the reaction of other people. I can't say that plays a role for me. For example, I wouldn't really care if a girl could beat me in an arm wrestling match... as long as she didn't LOOK like she could (or, actually, come to think of it... I don't want her ACTING like she can beat me up... even if she could).

The point is, it's not really a threat to my masculinity. At least not on a conscious level. BUT because 'being muscular' IS very much a part of the societal idea of "masculine beauty" (if you'll allow me that awkward term).

So, if I'm honest. I'd have to admit that not only does a muscular woman not fit my own image of 'femine beauty' it 'strayes' from that ideal in a way that is decidedly 'towards the masculine'.

So I don't really see it as a threat to my masculinity. But I DO in a weird way see it as a woman becoming less beautiful... in a way that makes me see her in a more masculine way.

I think... for me... it really is as simple as big muscles=masculine beauty (to me) Since I'm not attracted to masculine beauty (I'm straight) big muscles are unappealing to me.

Very interesting question. Have you always been into girls with big muscles? Because... if you just found some awesome chick who happened to have big muscles... that's different. Anyone could do that easily enough (myself included). 🙂

Honestly @randy121… it MAY very well be a societal non-conformation issue! I am very open about being a trans ally, but these women bodybuilders, don’t claim any masculinity, they claim to be feminine… Well sorry, NO! That is just not feminine. Just like if a man entered the “Miss America” contest including wearing an evening gown and the same bathing suit as ALL the other contestants. I would never say he was gay BECAUSE of that, but there is NO WAY he could dare tell me that he was no less masculine because he did it! Simple, physically ~ muscular woman are ugly and beautiful woman are delicate in nature. Birth givers are nurturers and warm, that's why god only allowed woman to give birth and not man. A baby is pure and delicate and needs to be handled delicately and a woman can offer that, not a man. A man's hand is rough, a woman's hand is delicate. A man's heart is ver loving but he does not show that and has a rough exterior ( like a coconut) because he is a protector of the family, a woman's heart is delicate and takes care of the family and babies. 1. What is a 'won beauty standards'? Should that be 'one'? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Men, as a general rule, are not super attracted to manly muscles. They're more keyed to reproductive queues, like large breasts and hips. Large muscles is a manly thing. And the truth is, the more a woman tries to be like a man the less desirable she is to them.
2. Men are simply not threatened by women. PERIOD. Unless she's literally going to beat the crap out of him because of her muscles. This is just a really stupid comment and notion.
3. Attraction and desire at not 'societal stereotypes'. Again, you have this moronic notion about it all. Guys like what they like, it's not a 'stereotype'.
4. A body builder competitor woman doesn't 'hurt their male ego'. He may or may not be attracted to her, but it's not about his ego, it's about ATTRACTION and DESIRE.

What is even more important than HIS attraction, is HERS. Does SHE want HIM? That's what gets a guy going. For without that nothing is going anywhere fast.

I dont mind a bit of muscles on a girl as long its not over done... One thing i do notice on female body builders is that their boobs completely disappear and to me personally its not very attractive... I love my boobs! Its honestly not anything about intimidation for me personally its about what is feminine to me. Evolutionary speaking an average guy can easily overpower a muscular girl because of biology. Nature made males that way because men hunted giant wooly mammoths for hundreds of miles and other dangerous game so we were made tougher and more athletic to survive such things. While the women gathered food and took on other less dangerous work because they had the most critical responsibility of making sure the offspring survived and that is why nature made them to easily store fat around their body. Ta ra! Sexy feminine curves! Lol so ig my answer would be evolution made us like what we like! Yes, you are seeking validation for you and your partner and have been doing so off and on here at GAG for a very long time. That is what people are put off by.

No one really cares if a woman wants to look masculine. That is her choice and there is nothing wrong with it. But when you ask why people don't find it attractive over and over and over again, it does get annoying after a while.

It's pure human nature for women to find masculine features attractive and for men to find feminine features attractive. And it's also natural for people to find it less attractive when a man goes out of his way to appear feminine or a woman goes out of her way to appear masculine. You can't expect people to find it attractive because it goes against their nature. That doesn't mean it's wrong or bad, just a little unnatural. But don't ask people to tell you it's attractive or that they appreciate it. Most never will, and that's fine too.

You are indeed seeking validation and that is obvious to everyone here. Just be yourself and stop trying to get everyone to tell you you are attractive. Just know it's okay for you and that's all that matters, and leave everyone else alone.

My Fiancé is a personal trainer he does power lifting, cross fit and a little body building. His body is perfect to me.
I've seen women in the gym that are sometime more muscular than men and women aren't able to build muscle mass like a man with out some kind of help. Women don't have the testosterone to gain muscle mass as men do.
However, if a woman wants to bodybuild go for it, it doesn't mean anything other than that's what you love doing. I would never look at anyone and judge them for how they choose to live their life.

I like some muscle... just not man sized bulky. Bulky plus well defined is the worst. When a woman has low body fat she starts looking just like a dude with implants to me. The square butt, man face? Legs that look like chicken drumsticks? No thanks. And I don't like extremes at either end. If she looks too weak to pick up a coffee mug that's nasty to me too.

You know that sucky show Supergirl? No, I don't watch it, but when the supergirl actress has on her muscle suit, I think that level of muscle looks nice. A woman as muscular as your wife uses steroids. It’s impossible for a woman, or even a man, to naturally build that amount of muscular size with such a low body fat percentage without them. Which means that it’s unnatural.

It's simply not very attractive, but it depends on a lot. There's a level of fitness that looks great. And it depends on other ways the girl might convey masculinity. If she's very feminine but has abs, that's fine. If she's not that muscly but dresses like a dude, that's bad. It all depends. And that's fine. There is a huge difference between muscular women and then (like guys) girls on steroids who are muscular.

Women who compete in bodybuilding only look shredded for a few days either side of their competition and then soften again (still showing shape and definition)

Because many people think that these women with extrem muscular body like men only worked out. It does not matter how much you train as a woman, it is impossible to get muscles like men due to hormons. The women with muscular body like men take steroids. It is actually extreme difficult to get visible muscles as a woman and so average woman can't get visible muscles since majority of them have to work etc and dont have so much time for this.

I think it’s because straight men are typically sexually attracted to women with prominent female secondary sex characteristics, i. e. strong indicators of fertility. Women with unnaturally prominent male secondary sex characteristics usually exhibit poor fertility due to the unnatural means used to obtain them.

There is some people that just plainly don't find muscular women attractive that is not fed into them by society. I am not one of them because I would be doing a bunch of sparring matches with plenty of people in general, and I have a small spare tire too on my stomach area.

It's not a feminine feature. It that's simple. Nothing to do with ego. Personally I can appreciate it, but as far as physical attraction, it's a turn off for me. I could care less what others think. It's just the way it is. Some guys love it though. But it's no different than if it's a guy that has what's normally considered a feminine feature, most women aren't attracted to that either.

1 and 3 however its more biology than society. I like highly feminine women. Thats my standards and it comes from biology. Not what society says i should like (because they also say big is beautiful and i dont agree with that either). I like athletic but not muscular women. Like runner not bodybuilder.

Of those four options I think overwhelmingly the reason is 1. Masculine features on a woman just don't figure prominently in most people's minds of a beautiful woman. Turns out, most of us like FEMININE features in a woman. That means softer features like big natural boobs--not man-pecs.

There’s a difference between steroid muscles and natural muscles. Natural muscles on women do look appealing but steroid muscles on women look unnatural.
