Is Child birth as agonizing as the religions say it is or suggest it is?

Question

I know a lot of woman who gave birth, and only 2 were horrified by the pain. The others talked entirely about how happy they were to be new moms. It might be they are in pain and don't tell me cause we aren't socially close enough for them to be honest with me about their issues, but I wonder if it is a type of pain that you can tolerate and not a type of pain you cannot accept. I never gave birth and this is just guessing. I used to have epilepsy which was more painful than being beaten with 20 baseball bats at the same time but it was type of pain I was able to withstand because it seemed like a normal part of my life before it was dealt with with growing age that saved me from more seizures. Pain I have difficulty with is something that seems unnatural. Like needle shots are fine, minor cooking scars are fine, phobias are abnormal.

My grandmother had 7 kids and explained it that the hormones we produced during birth make us forget. Her quote was that she would mentally curse out my grandfather till she had the baby in her arms. I myself had an emergency c-section so never experienced the full contractions, but healing from it was an absolute nightmare and they dont tell you you're not supposed to drive for many weeks after. But the Braxton hicks contractions weren't fun. They aren't as painful as they are, surprising. Thing they don't tell you is your hips starting to separate to prepare for birth is painful and starts in your 3rd trimester (or in my unlucky case week 16), the weight of the baby kills your back, and you have to remember your body expands to have roughly 10cm come out of the lower half, its painful. We are just conditioned to grin and bear it. I for one will be getting my tubes tied because of how miserable pregnancy was and because I dont want anymore.

the amout of pain is caused by the stress on the body. Something has to come out and it is big.

During childbirth the body produces adrenaline for the same reason you are afraid... your body goes into overdrive to be able to handle more than normal. adrenaline also makes the pain less noticeable. not every woman produces the same amount of adrenaline and thus feels more pain than the other.

I like to think wider hips in bone structure also helps reducing the pain. If there is more room to pass though it " can " produce less pain.

But then again... I'm no doctor so this is a huge guess.. or huge maybe 😊

I've always wondered why "giving birth is painful" isn't among the most common reasons for women not having children.

I always hear women say they dont want children because they want to focus on their career, their afraid of responsibility, overpopulation. I don't think I've ever heard/read any woman even mention pain among these reasons, let alone state it as the main reason.

I of course don't know what it's like, but it seems pretty terrible.
