Have you heard of the birth pains analogy to describe your faith?

I believe I have and correct me if I am wrong but isn't it based on the idea that just as birth pains are necessary and lead to the birth of a new life, similarly, difficult experiences or challenges in one's faith journey are necessary for spiritual growth or the birth of a new understanding? That it suggests that suffering and difficulties can have a purpose and lead to a positive transformation.
