So why doesn't this apply to cosmetic procedures as well?
Should cosmetic procedures be covered by insurance?
So why doesn't this apply to cosmetic procedures as well?
The number of potential medical problems that can be caused by unnecessary cosmetic procedures is far more than makes it worthwhile covering.
In extreme cases some procedures are covered "ex gratia" by insurance where a history of significant emotional distress has been caused by issues like acne scars, skin folds following weight loss, uneven breast sizes, etc that are technically "cosmetic", but are actually a surgical solution to an emotional issue.
I’m not a fan of insurance. I hate the whole fckin industry. It’s the only product that rises in price the more you use it.
But it’s the design we have. And not everything can be covered. If it’s a car accident disfigurement, you’re covered. If you’re just wanting a new pair of lips somewhere, sorry.
In the UK cosmetic proceedures are free if it can be shown not having it effects your quality of life. Technically this is supposed to mean if you get disfigured they'll sort you out but people have argued they need breast implants, nose jobs etc for their mental health.
Now there's a trend to get cheap surgery in Turkey and then have UK hospitals correct the mistakes afterwards for free.

Insurance pays for procedures that are for saving your life or correcting a disfigurement, not for you getting a nose job or butt lift. Same as car insurance. They pay for damages caused in an accident, but they don't pay to fix your car if you wreck it driving in a demolition derby.
If somebody had breast cancer and had a breast removed it should ne covered or if you have burn scars especially facial s are it should be covered. If you are getting a nose job because so ebody said you ha e a big honker you are on your own
Only if its due to an accident. If its by choice thats your own bill to pay.
I understand the first part but what I'm actually saying is that it still should be covered by Insurance because just like any other surgery whether it's medically necessary or not, you are still putting your life and safety at the hands of doctors and even medical procedures for medical reasons can still be risky so why not cover all procedures with insurance?
depends on what they are for
Nope
