We had wild fires 🔥🚒 happening back in the early 2000's and it was only 5 miles from my apartment.

That may not seem very close, but that fire started in The Inland Empire, jumped the freeway and spread as far as Malibu, California and beyond.

It could have very easily hit my apartment building.

Not as bad. We've had quite a lot of wild grass fires in the UK recently. The only big one I saw was across the sea on a headland. Made it look like a volcano.

Nothing that close to home, but the skies have been clouded with smoke and soot so heavily that you could stare straight into the sun without blinking.
