Thanks for your help!
Will my exercise bike help me lose weight?
Thanks for your help!
Exercise bike = cardio = fat burning. It's not as intense as other forms, but it's definitely something. It is not enough, however, to make up for poor dietary habits. If weight loss is your goal, nutrition should come first. There is nothing you can to exercise wise to keep up with overal poor nutritional habits, and that doesn't necessarily means low calories. There's a lot more to nutrition than that.
Work some sort of bodyweight resistance exercises in there too such as pushups, bodyweight squats, and chair dips. A good exercise regimen should consist of resistance training as well as cardio. Cardio combined with good nutrition will burn the fat off, but having a good fitness base with lean muscle on your body will keep it off.
I am going to start with a better diet and do some sit-ups and bike. I wasn't kidding when I said I have a hectic schedule. Wake up 5Am to study, then go to school for the majority of the day and then go back home (and study some more). Its almost like their is not enough hours in a day.
It's better to do 20 pushups, 20 dips, 20 squats, 20 situps, and 20 lunges than it is to do 100 situps if you have the time to do 100 situps. =)
I don't know if you have any money to spend or not but pick this up:

It's a resistance band kit that includes a DVD that guides you through a 7 minute circuit training workout using the bands. I'm sure you can find 7 minutes. =) I own the DVD and I have to say it's a pretty killer workout for being only 7 minutes. You won't need any of the kits that include the blue or black band since they're on the high end of the resistance spectrum.
I think you'll like it a lot if you get it, especially if you combine it with cardio. The beginner kit should be fine for you. =) If you use one of the lighter bands you should be able to safely do it everyday but if you start using heavier bands that really make you feel like your muscles are burning from doing it you're going to want to do it every other day only.
Some of these exercises I never heard before like dips, squats, and lunges (mostly because I am a studious person). I have not watched any television since last August. As you can tell I really do not have any time for a bunch of things. Thanks for your advice if I have any free time I will look it up and do them.
Anyway it's not the end all be all of workouts, but if you're really strapped for time I think you'll find that circuit training in general is for you. It's a type of training that uses resisted movements and eliminates rest (you go straight from one exercise to the next with no break, every time) giving you a total body workout that combines cardio and strength training as efficiently as possible. With circuit training it's possible to get in a decent workout in only 15 minutes.
Squat - stand with your feet shoulder width apart and, while keeping your back straight, lower your body as if you were trying to sit down on an invisible chair. Lower yourself down as low as you can go without losing your balance and falling backward, then push yourself back up. Make sure that your weight is on your heels and not the front of your foot.
Thank you I should look into it. BTW does the Beginner video actually work?
The video contains three different 7 minute workouts: One beginner total body workout, one advanced total body workout, and one door hook circuit that focuses more on the upper body and core that can be used by beginner and advanced users alike. Yes it does work great.
Thank you!
For best results I would do the video 2x or 3x back to back. After you go throuh the beginner routine (which is 7 minutes) start it over and do it again. The time goes by really quickly while you're working out =) Be careful not to use too much resistance. It's difficult to gauge how much resistance to use because in the beginning the exercises will seem too easy. Bear in mind however that you'll be going through the entire workout without taking any breaks at all so what seemed easy
In the beginning will REALLY start to burn toward the end.
I made the mistake of using the 25 lb resistance band my first time trying it because when I used lighter ones it seemed too easy for the first couple of exercises. But then it really started to burn BADLY and I couldnt' finish the entire 7 minutes. I learned my lesson. Try with the lightest or 2nd lightest one you have to start and if you could have done more at the end you know to use a heavier one next time.
Ok and I will try to use the lighter one (once I get it).
I know about the energy boost and the caffeine crash. That is why I drink lots of coffee and coke products and bunch of junk food.
Sure they'll help, but not if you don't control your diet. You mght want to sgn up with Weight Watchers to give you support and guidance on that front. Plus, you'll save time on shopping because they'll tell you what to eat!
Ok, I will stop eating all the junk food and exercise as well. Because I could drink four cups of cofee a day just to stay awake to study. Because I normally get up at 5ish in the morning to study (even during the holiday season).
Yes, in those circumstances people inhale a lot of sugar just to stay awake.
How many hours you have to bike depends on how many calories you're getting, so no one can tell you an exact figure.
I know tell me about! Because the degree that I am obtaining requires a lot of time studying. Thank you for your opinion.
Remember, a journey begins with a single step! Every time you reach for candy, pull out the bicycle instead.
Weight Watchers is great for busy people because theyll do all the calculations for you on how many calories, how many hours of exercise you'll need, etc.
Best answer, no? Good luck!
Ok, I will keep it in mind when I want junk food. I probably should throw out my junk food stash ( which I keep right next to my desk).
Yep, that would be step #1, and replace it with some fruit or the like. Hey, you can use the fruit as weights to exercise with until you eat them.

Somewhat. You need to modify your diet to lose. It's 80% food and 20% exercise. Read "Fit for Life" by Harvey Diamond.
I will try to modify my diet and exercise. But like I said I really do not have any free time outside school. But thanks for the idea! I will keep it in mind. I am not an obese person but someone who's overweight according to the bmi. I probably will cut back all the sugar products that help me stay awake to study like:cofee, coke, cookies, etc.
Don't eat anything that comes out of a box or a bag. Keep fruit on hand if you're craving a snack. Eat a lot of soup - it's very filling. And drink water.
Thank you for your comment! I will try to start eating more fruit and not all those junk foods items and most importantly drink more water not caffeine!
Caffeine is OK as long as you drink water as well.
I drink like four cups of cofee and maybe two glasses of water everyday!
Two glasses of water is nowhere near enough. You need like 8, minimum.
8 glasses of water a day is the daily recommended minimum for the average person. Considering that caffeine dehydrates you, you'll need more than that as a heavy coffee drinker.
Well, it is sometimes hard to stay awake. That is why I drink lots of caffeine. But I will start eating better (this will include drinking more water) and exercising.
Coffee can make it more difficult to stay awake because the energy boost it gives you only lasts for approximately 60-90 minutes, but then you really crash from it and feel the opposite. Robs you of your energy, makes you really sleepy.
I am planning to cut back on some junk food (like coffee) for one thing. Maybe I will go down to 3 cups of coffee a day.
Coffee isn't your problem. It's not junk food.
Are we being trolled? Feels like it.
Junk food probably could be my issue because I have stash right next to my desk.
3500 calories = 1lb
Biking on a stationary bike = 300-400/hr calorie burn
So around 10 hrs
I can do that . My stationary bike is under my desk and I normally study for 10 hours a day.
Or, you can eat 400 calories a day less than you burn and lose it that way.
Well, I am planning to eat better and exercise for 2012! It probably doesn't help me to drink four cups of cofee everyday.
