It means he understood that he caused harm to someone unintentionally, and that he kept his word, something that far too few people place value on anymore.
The news is full of stories of athletes screwing up or being jerks, so why the complaint about a story when someone did something RIGHT?
He did something nice. It was a nice gesture. I mean, she had to get stitches after all- why CAN'T he give her flowers? It's not a huge global issue, but it's still the kind of thing people might interested in hearing about. What's the problem? I see no reason for you to be upset by it.
So you have a problem with the fact that she isn't being greedy?
it's a nice thing to do, but it's not like oh my gosh, that's suuper duuper nice! it's more of a caring gesture than anything else.

She is a cheerleader, she is near the court, there are certain risks associated with that. The guy didn't maliciously try to hurt her. What he did was nice. So you would be greedy and ask for money? A couple hundred grand for 8 stitches.
So why would you feel that you were entitled to a couple hundred grand for a couple stitches? Very classy.
Not pain and suffering, just greed.
A little defensive are we? Explain cowardice?
