Saying just get a gym membership isn't going to help because I need the motivation to actually hit the gym.
Please help me be motivated!
Saying just get a gym membership isn't going to help because I need the motivation to actually hit the gym.
It's at times when I'm at a loss that I resort to my little red book. "Keep calm and carry on" is it's title.
This little book contains many quotes from some of the finest minds from around the world. So I give to you a couple of extracts from the book.

"The best way out is always through." by Robert Frost.
--> Which I interpret as, instead of sitting around and contemplating how, why, when, which and where (which I do a lot myself), is to just go and do it. Stop overthinking and start doing.

"The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions" by Ellen Glasglow.
--> I feel she was trying to get across that being in a situation like this, aka a rut, it is the same as being dead. Unable to do anything, unable to live. Just stagnant. Do you want that? If not then do something about it.

The last one is quite long, however.. I feel it's meaning in this context is, you'll regret it in so many years, and you know this. So do it now whilst you have that chance to do it.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

My advice to you. Don't look for ways to do it and work it all out. Just start doing it.
I believe you will find it you just start doing it, your momentum will build and will take you onward to a healthier life. Willpower is the way to fight a lack of motivation. I've been there myself.
Sometimes it's a huge effort BUT in the end YOU WILL love your body and yourself. I was the same way for too long a period of time. I finally decided to do things slowly and NOT to cheat. I started by walking everyday -- just a half mile a day for 10 days. Then I increased it to a mile and so on. Now I walk 4-6 miles/day. Walking is easy. At the same time I went to see a nutritionist who put me on a 1,500 calorie a day plan. When I lost 4 pounds the 1st week, it was all I needed for motivation. Yup, there were some weeks where I didn't lose anything even though I stuck to the plan, but sure enough in the following weeks, the weight came off.
When you put on that new bathing suit, the sexy dress, look at your body in the mirror and friends tell you how GREAT you look and become envious, you will know it was all worthwhile. And you will not believe how great you feel mentally and emotionally. And finally, you will reach the peak of self-confidence!
Watching fitspo like this always motivates me:
And the quote "The only workout you'll ever regret is the one you don't do."
If you find something that makes you feel good motivation will be less of a problem. When exercise becomes a chore is when it becomes so hard to get into the gym. My personal example - I used to run and do mostly cardio for a long time and motivation was hard to come by because I really hate running, it's so monotonous and boring. Then I started lifting weights (hence the bodybuilding inspiration videos) and I truly enjoy it, way more than I ever enjoyed running, and it's so much easier to stick to my workout schedule now. It's easier to see the progress too, with the increasing weights and increasing muscle mass and increasing physical attractiveness, haha. I also like to reward myself with protein shakes after working out, and that usually does the trick when I'm feeling lazy (they taste so good!)
About the gym membership... I know a lot of females (myself included) feel intimidated by the huge guys in the weight room and sometimes that takes the fun out of going to the gym. Find an all-female gym if you can. Get an orientation on your first visit (most gyms do this for new members) and ask how to use the machines if you don't know so you don't run around like an idiot and make a fool of yourself by using the machines wrong. I've done that. It's embarrassing :(.
Make really small changes over time. It will take longer, but you will be able to maintain it, which is the important thing. You really don't need to get a whole bunch of motivation all of a sudden to make big changes, those are almost impossible to maintain.
Think of one thing you can do to improve your diet. Like one unhealthy thing you can replace with something better. Do that. Then wait a while, then pick another thing. After a while you will feel better, then you can do small things like park farther away from the store, taking the stairs, and stuff like that. It won't even feel hard because you'll do it so gradually.

If it's hard for you to exercise... I hope you start eventually... Don't wait till it's too late.
What I can advice you in, is... don't buy crappy food, such as; chips, sodas, cookies, cakes, and anything the like for that matter.
When you're at home and you crave those nasty stuffs, they won't be there because you didn't buy them. Therefore, you won't be able to eat them. It's a good start I think. Instead of all that junk, buy jello! make it in water, it's delicious! Buy bell peppers, I eat those when I crave stuff. :D
So if you can't exercise because you're too lazy for it, at least change the way you eat.
When you eat better and exercise- you're going to have so much more energy! You'll be happier because you have an outlet to put your frustrations into. It is YOUR time to focus on you and no one else.
Plus, how can you beat that amazing feeling of trying on something you don't think will fit and finding out that it actually fits!
Go to an area with a nice scenery or that brings up good memories and walk and keep walking.
Go out with friends to swim, play sports, physical activity.
Look up home work out videos and try them out.
Once you get started, you'll be inspired to take it further.
Your motivation is that a)you feel disgusting b)good diet and exercise are important and c)it feels great for your body, heart, soul, mind
Post a fitness pic on your fridge that really gets you motivated
Avoid buying bad foods, keep health snack items around. (I precut all my fruit and stick it in the fridge. When I am hungry I usually snack on what ever comes easiest to grab)
Music really keeps you motivated before, during and after your workout.
Keep record book on your workout routine. Seeing results I feel gets you hooked on exercising more than anything.
Follow a routine of small steps that you can accomplish. When you see results, you will naturally be motivated. Try to do all these steps before you spend any time for your own pleasure. Make sure they're attainable and you can do them every day without exhausting yourself. If you feel unmotivated, make your steps even smaller until you can do them every day. Know that if you don't make the changes you will not change.
Put the cheese puffs down you fat cow and start running. You're telling me you're so stupid you can't move one leg in front of the other in quick motion? My god you must be the fattest mammal on earth. You set the world record for the biggest looser on earth... too bad it isn't weight. Wait, now I know why there is starvation in the world YOU EAT ALL THEIR FOOD.
I hope this motivated you. If it didn't I am so so sorry for telling you these things. Good luck.
It's a vicious cycle because the more unhappy you are, the less motivation you would have. The longer you leave it the worse it gets. But you are the author of your own destiny.
Try telling your friends that you're working out, they'll expect to see results and so you've got to really go through with your word!
This was the best advice I got,
Dont do it for me do it for you.
