Why do people do this?

i read that when you break up with someone, you get rid of all their stuff. you lose all contact...such as block fb or phone and what not.

my ex. broke up with me and he did all that...shouldn't I be the one to do it instead of him?

sadly, no matter what he did, he and I still have to have contact due to kids

Sorry about what you are going through. To answer your question there are several reasons:

1. to remove reminders of that person, making for a "cleaner" cut

2. to open up room for a new relationship

However, having kids complicates things. They might be comforted by things that remind them of the parent without custody, especially if that parent is moving far away.

One of you would do it as both of you have to get on with life and not get distracted with each other often- so it was him ... Usually it would be the girl - or the more aggressive partner.

It doesn't matter who does it , just hang on in the tough time and be busy with your daily routine, and it will pass with time and a pattern will emerge.
