If we as humanity want to evolve we have to stop with retribution, revenge or whatever you like to call it. Just because somebody hurts somebody you care about doesn't give you the right to do anything just to get retribution.
Where would this chain of retribution stop? Who makes you the judge, jury and executioner? What if somebody else would demand that same retribution you claim to have a right to? Especially if somebody hurts somebody you care about, you have no right to claim any retribution in their name.
Even is somebody does something directly towards you doesn't give you any special right to do the same back at that person. You may use their action as a poor excuse to be a just as low as that person. But it's still petty revenge.
I'm not saying that I would be okay with people hurting the ones I love. But at the same time I don't pretend that I have any special rights to claim retribution, revenge or false justice just because I feel like it.
Talking it out may not always be a possibility. But that doesn't mean that you automatically have to resolve to fight fire with fire. life is not black and white.

in a lot of cases yeah.
sometimes even two eyes for an eye. there needs to be some additional punishment to make things relatively fair.
It depends on what the goal is. Vengeance shouldn't be the goal. Change should. Unfortunately, most people think victory and punishing the enemy are ideas that coincide.
Vengeance and justice aren't the same thing.
In many situations yes. Some people can't be talked to, if they go out of their way to do something malicious, why think you can chat it out?
