you will gain weight because you will crave highly stimulating foods like sugars and fats(to make up for highs from the tobacco) try to resist these cravings or go for a lesser evil, like drink some calming tea with honey... something to soothe your nerves and cravings.. for some people going for a walk helps... get your mind off of it, do the best you can and if you do binge on donuts or something don't beat yourself up about it, at least it's not a cigarette. Yes, one cig may be less damaging than five donuts but you are trying to get tobacco out of your system, you want to go long enough that if you were to smoke a cigarette it will give you a headache and make you want to puke! That will only happen after you've been completely detoxed the nicotine out of you body. SO if you do gain some weight it will be worth it, and then just work on the food addiction and loosing the weight, what ever it takes you gotta kick the cigarette habit! You can do it:)

Of course it's possible to get into better shape after qiting smoking. Just eat healthy and exercize. Work on your endurance, don't over-do it though. You may gain a little if you're going to (sub)consiously overeat to keep your hands and mouth busy. Be sure to snack on carrots and other veggies instead of twizzlers and othe sugary items.
The first thing that recovers when you stop smoking is your taste buds on your tongue.
Now they're pretty deadened by the nicotine. But they'll come back within a few weeks, and , presto, food tastes wonderful! It's been years since food tasted so good!
So it's VERY easy to overeat. Weight gain isn't inevitable; you probably should start an exercise program along with quitting smoking, since your lungs will also partly recover, and you'll be able to work out a lot longer and harder.
Most of all, just be aware of how much you are eating. You won't have to strictly count calories, but set a limit. Watch the desserts!
You should go on a diet when you quite smoking, but BEFORE you gain weight, if you don't' want to have to buy new clothes!
Weight gain is completely inevitable because you will start to crave for certain foods like sweets. Though, that's a good way to start up things. You can now have more time in your hands. Hit the gym.

Good luck and congrats on starting the process! I've lost too many family members to cancer related to cigarettes.
fasting is the best way to quit if you fast for 10 days your body will detox you'll be less irritable and feel better plus no weight gain :D
You are probably going to want to snack once you quit smoking. Just make sure you are snacking on the healthy stuff (fruits/veggies) when you get the munchies instead of junk food.
you might actually gain weight because now that you quit you might want to replace smoking with food, but your skin will look so much better so that's a plus
