I've been vegetarian since September, and haven't had any problems with my diet.
What advice can you give to a novice vegetarian? Also, what advice can you give to a vegetarian in a Meat-eater house?
I have been vegetarian for about 8 years. I make sure I get enough iron by making lentil burgers and curried lentils (look awful but tastes delicious). My iron actually improved. I have a family history of not having good iron levels and my doctor suggested it was because I find it easier to process the iron in vegetables than from meat.
I take no supplements and nor does my husband who has been veggie for 9 years. He works very hard and has tons of energy but then he eats very little processed food.
We both eat fish and eggs and cheese, so I guess we are pescatarians really.
I do live in a meat eating household too and mostly find that when I cook nice veggie stuff (lasagne, burgers etc) that they want to try it and are surprised by how tasty it is.
Good luck, its a nicer way to live.
No, I just have my veggies, fruits, milk, nuts, green peas, chickpeas, etc.
I've been a vegetarian for ten years now and never needed any supplements
- Proteins: all dairy products (I suppose you're not vegan), all soy products, all legumes (lentils, beans, peas, etc.), and more.
- Iron: spinach, cereals, a variety of fruits and mushrooms, soy, and many more.
- Vitamins: every fruit and vegetable.
And so on and so on. Basically every nutrient you need is in all sorts of vegetarian food.
You have no need for supp[lements if your diet has what you need, and you can easily get what you need from sources other than meat.
It's a myth that you can't be a vegetarian without suppplements!
If you're in a meat-eater house, you may have to start making your own meals occasionally Try to make something really delicious and eat it in front of all the meatheads, just to put the wind up them...
