Help! Dieting/losing weight troubles!

Recently I started dieting and I've been getting noticeably thinner. I've gone down 2 pants sizes in the month since I've started. Now, bear in mind I'm dieting but not doing any exercise (yet). My question is, I weighed myself and I have actually GAINED weight since starting the diet a month ago, despite getting much thinner and obviously losing mass. What does this mean?
