Help! My mum's going for cataract extraction and intraocular lens implant of her left eye and I'm so worried..

She's 64 and going for the surgery tomorrow.Nobody in the family has undergone this kind of surgery before and I'm worried sick.

What are the care and precautons that I should take to ensure her speedy recovery and that no infections of the eye would occur after the surgery?Anything to watch out for regarding her diet?What to eat and what not to eat?Thanks beforehand for helpng!

I don't have a lot to add (talk to the doctor about what to actually do for her), but I can tell you this:

Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries in the country (if not the most), and our doctors are very good at it. So, deep breath! She's going to be able to see out of that eye again - very exciting :)

I heard it doesn't hurt and you really don't have to do anything. Her doctor should give her antibiotics if anything after the surgery, and Ray Charles glasses to wear around for two weeks in the sun. When she sleeps she may need an eye patch.

You don't need to worry. My grandparents have gone through that and it's fine. Nothing major. And as for all the above questions, you should ask the doctor.

It's just an eye ball not brain surgery or open heart transplant. She will be fine.
