Do not try to lose weight by just maintaining a calorie deficit. Sure, you'll lose weight but eating slightly under your calories limit every day is not only tedious but it does not result in actual weight loss. My friend does this and, while she does look nice (she also exercises), she's always monitoring what she eats and denying herself the pleasures she once enjoyed. You will gain the weight back upon returning to your old eating habits. You should eat your calorie requirement or more each day and use EXERCISE to go into the deficit rather than simply not eating enough.
Example: I require ~2,2000 calories a day and consume 2,000-3,000 but when I exercise, I burn 300-500 and I don't gain a pound despite going over my calorie intake.
TL;DR: It's better to exercise more rather than eat less.
