Top 3 Dating Tips for Singles During The Holidays

1. Update that online dating profile

I don't mean just update a few photos. I mean make your profile "Holiday" themed. Take some photos of you in an ugly Christmas sweater, or sitting on Santa Claus's lap, or ice skating with all the Christmas lights in the back ground.

Show that you are not on your couch...eating cheetos and crying in your glass of wine. Change up your profile info to things you like to do during the holiday season instead of leaving what you like doing during the summer.

Update the profile to the season of which we are in and I promise you will be shocked at the response.

2. Meetup.com

Discover groups of people who share your same interest or better yet... start your own group and have them come straight to you. This is the biggest secret out there for narrowing down your "niche" of people that you know you would have a good time with. Check it out!

3. Volunteer

According to one poll I recently read most volunteers during the holidays are "single" people. HELLO?

Not only are you doing good for your community but you are meeting like minded people to boot! Don't underestimate the power of volunteering!

After taking down photos like this from my dating profile, I recieve more messages. Not sure if it's because I check in everyday.

Anyways, I think it's time to join a new group, and make sure there are singles my age too.
The recent activity, an old man (60+) called me. Other times, young men tried to get laid. WTF. Some people just want these events as an opportunity to hookup. :,( 😢

I would guess that many men feel that a woman who does a job like that is a very masculine woman and they would either be simply not attracted or perhaps even intimidated by you. It is usually very enlightening to find someone of the opposite sex who will read your profile and give you some candid feedback from the opposite sex perspective.

@OlderAndWiser I think so. At first, I used this to filter people, to save my time: ones who are confident in their own masculinity wouldn't mind it. However, I don't think it works effectively. Some might see my activities and then come to an interpretation that I could be into risky things like casual sex too? There are a lot who message me without noticing my "no smoking", "no hookups", "singles only".

Exactly! A lot of the people who complain about not finding a date aren't putting the effort. You need to go out there and meet people. Even if you don't meet Adobe you would want to date, you might run into someone who may introduce you.

I would add this. Do NOT state anything in your profile about hoping to meet someone because you hate being alone during the holidays. That sounds desperate and it sounds like you are simply wanting to use someone to keep yourself occupied.

So far, for me though, nope... Nothings come from volunteering, going to parties (I'm often the only single person at those parties, which makes things awkward).

Only thing I haven't really done is to change to a holiday theme on dating sites, though I DO have one photo that is from the holidays two years ago. It's one of my favorites, but it's not blatantly "christmassy" (at least I don't think so). In fact, I use it as a main image most of the time just because it's one of my favs, and I don't get many photos taken (at least ones I like). Girls don't really message me; maybe it's being a guy, and girls don't tend make a first move. Maybe it's being dog ugly. I don't know, but I'm skeptical on this one, at least as far as guys doing this. Girls, maybe.

I don't know what "one" thing would be; I would have to name a lot of things that would have to change before I think I'd be successful. Big one would be money. The average income here is 80K a year. Most is usually around 120K a year. I'm not earning that, and probably never will. I'd probably have to also have a GREAT bod in addition to the income to start seeing anything.

A thought that just popped up. The holidays could be a good opportunity to do some sort of reunion, and you might be surprised to see how much people have changed in the past years...
Even if it doesn't have a romantic outcome it might still be a good way to be around people and have some fun rather than sitting home alone. 🤷‍♀️

Unless I had something already going in late November to early December I wouldn't even try dating in the month of December at all. You want people to remember a Christmas as a happy time of year, not having negative thoughts because of some bad dating experience that occurred around that time.

There are much bigger problems out there, though. Such as being unconventional.

Quite true, and one of my criteria for judging the quality of a relationship is not whether we can have fun when we go out of town together for a long weekend, but whether we have fun when we go to the grocery store together, or just staying at home doing laundry or something else mundane. When you settle into a LTR, you sill spend much more time at the grocery store and doing laundry than you will in having excursions to NYC or SF, etc. You've gotta be able to have fun doing the everyday stuff together!
