Well, that was the second most dreadful Halloween I've ever had!!

Busted ass to get to the store to buy some candy for the kids, got back home just before it was supposed to start, sat on the porch from 6:00 until shortly before 8:00 and had FOUR KIDS!! And they were all together!! I bought 4 bags of lollipops! Had I known those 4 kids was all I was gonna get, I would've given each one their own bag!! Last year I had maybe 2 dozen kids so, I only gave out 5 pieces to each kid this year figuring, I'd still have enough to go around even if I DID get 2 dozen, again!!
3 small groups of people just walked right by!
After waiting over an hour for another bunch to come by, I had to come in because the excitement was just too much for me!! I would've taken my pulse but I didn't have a calendar!! The bunny didn't even show up for his nightly slice of bread!!
Two years ago I got ONE KID!! If I was still at MY house (4 miles from here), I would've had at least 4 dozen kids in the first hour!! Missing my house and the holiday festivities over there, I nearly came to tears!! On top of that, my neighbor down there dresses up as Elvis every year and plays records in front of the firehouse for the kids to dance to after trick or treating and then prizes are handed out for the 3 best costumes per age group. Tonight's the last night he's gonna do that and I'm gonna have to miss it! Had I known I wasn't gonna get anyone here, I would've gone down there and hung out with him and the kids!! He'll be done before I can get there, now!! (I don't drive!)

Yeah same here. Halloween used to be crazy. Floods of children you couldn’t even drive in my neighborhood. But good news. You have a lot of candy for you.

Used to kids would be knocking all hours of the night. There were kids out early as 4:30 and late as sometimes even 10 or 11 at night. The hours between 5-9 was absolute mayhem.

I don’t know what’s changed. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s after COVID and some are too scared or the kids lost interest in it? But these last few years have been dreadful too.

We used to when I was a kid. Used to have big setups. In the garage we had to buy tons of candy and sometimes ran out. Then when it got late and my grandparents went home.

We would go inside and leave the porch light on and still would have trick or treaters. I don’t know what’s changed.

And when I mean a kid. I don’t mean 30 years ago. I mean I’m only 20. So not that long.

Where I grew up, we'd start just after dinner and go until 9 or 10. Round about the time I stopped doing it, they'd start after dinner and go until 8:00 and then we'd all go to the borough building where my neighbor would play Halloween records for the kids to dance to and then they'd judge everyone's costumes by age groups and 3 per group would win a prize and then that group would go to the firehouse in back to get a brown paper bag of more goodies before going back hoe.
For the first few years, we'd go up to the local school and, in the auditorium, we'd get to see a few cartoons and a local magician do magic for us for about an hour or two and then we''d get the goody bags and go home.

Yeah. I just don’t know what happened to Halloween. It isn’t the same as it was even 10 years ago.

I thought maybe it was just my neighborhood since there isn’t as many kids anymore.

But it’s everywhere.

Some people in my neighborhood even had like haunted mazes even their whole house.

There was one house that has a whole thing set up in their back yard every year with bounce houses and stuff. That was cool.

It’s just not the same. I also before and after Halloween doing trunk or treats and early trick or treating events.

Oh, I'm sure my old neighborhood was LOADED with kids this year, as it always is. A number of people come from other neighborhoods to do it in ours! I don't think e have more than 2 or 3black families in that area but, every Halloween there's groups of blacks showing up! People park in front of the house and a boat load of kids fall out!

This woman across the street was the singer in a rock band and we suspect she was also a stripper. she used to walk around in REALLY sexy and revealing clothes! She kept most of the lighting and sound gear at her house and, every Halloween she'd set it all up and use the PA to cackle like a witch and invite the kids in to get treats and a bit of a scare! One year, one of the guys in the band got her pregnant and ran off and, all of a sudden she found Jesus and quit the band, sold all the gear, always wore baggy clothes and, when Halloween came, instead of handing out candy, she'd run off to a church about 30 miles from here to pray all night long! Otherwise, the area is still jumpin' heavily on Halloween!

Tell me about it. Where I live we generally didn't get much kids so we use to buy the big ass candy bars but these recent years we've been running out so we decided to buy 2 boxes of those medium sized candy bars of 30 and I don't think 1 kid came just our family like now we gonna have to be eating candy fo dinner

I was hoping to get some that I'd eat if I didn't get enough kids but, all they had were gum and lollipops! Only one of the 4 bags are opened so, I'm just gonna take them back where I got `em and get a refund.

I would have suggested it was because you were giving out lollipops instead of chocolate bars, but I tried with chocolate bars and still, not many kids showed up

They had no clue what I was giving out until they got here! I gave the same thing last year and got several times more kids. The point is, there were only those 4 kids DOING trick or treating, this year!!

Well, for one thing, a lot of trunk or treating is happening nowadays. It's a lot easier and safer for parents to take their kids to the mall, stores, or trick-or-treating events at churches. Plus, to me, Trunk or treating seems more fun, And the adults can dress up their cars. I also feel like COVID-19 had a lot to do with it too.

Dang it! I just had an idea. You know what I should have done yesterday? I should found a recently deceased person's voter registration card and dressed up like a skeleton and gone in to cast a ballot for Early Voting.
