When I was younger New Years Eve was always an epic adventure. There was always some drunken excursion that would usually turn out completely different from what was planned and would always be awesome. I am older now but it just doesn't seem the same as it was 30 years ago.
+1 yI worked in the bar business for ten years, so New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day I now simply view as “Amateur Nights”, and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than just at home and away from the madness. St. Paddy’s Day was way worse in terms of how many fights I’d have break up and how much puke had to be mopped up, lmfao, but New Year’s Eve was more just lame.
Even if I was out partying and not working, it was just never as good of a time, because everything peaked so early. I guess it was related to being in my 20s, but I wasn’t even strolling into a house party until 11:30 at earliest, so it’s like you’re barely done making the rounds saying hi to people and then it’s like “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!”, everyone is lively for like three minutes, then it’s like “ok…so now what?” Then people are dispersing, and it’s like “we usually rock out past 3 AM? Where are you guys going?” Just always felt “off” to me, like the timing of the night. Also, in my case, I was in a college town so the students were mostly gone for winter break, which made everything even more lame. Honestly, it was the best when I was a kid. Chinese food and a Three Stooges marathon on TV at home, or I’d sleep over a friend’s house and raise hell with them. Dick Clark is dead now, the next best thing was watching that Andy Cohen guy ripping shots on love TV, and Anderson Cooper struggling to keep up and wincing at every shot…. which was actually sneaky comedic gold, lmao, but some wet blanket at (I think?) CNN put the kibosh on that, so now they’re just two dudes I couldn’t care less about doing the same dumb NYE broadcast everyone else does. Wheel out a drunk celebrity or just don’t broadcast, that’s my new standard😂

If The Stooges aren’t on for NYE, then I just don’t know what to believe in anymore…

Me too. Thank God we didn't have phones back then. There's no proof of what we did back then

Thanks for the mho and Happy new year
Since I didn't like going out to parties and such, I stayed home every New Year's Eve and volunteered to babysit the kids of my neighbors and friends and have them sleep over. It worked out great for everyone and I had a blast with the kids.
But nowadays, New Year's Eve is not a big deal to me. I don't drink either, so I will just sit this one out and let it slip on by.
I'd like to add that the people in my neighborhood love to make noise with their guns unfortunately. They shoot them in the air. So, after they stop, I will finally get some restful sleep 🤗12 Reply
Not usually but this is the first NYE since me and my boyfriend got together. We were at the same party last year but at the time were just friends. So this year we both have to work so after work I’m going to his house and he’s going to grill us steaks and we’ll watch the ball drop just the two of us.

Was the same for me too growing up. Was always crazy about it, but it's just a day ushering in a new year. No biggie. It's what we do with our lives in the year that matters, not celebrating it.

+1 yI'm with you. When younger, watching the ball drop at Times Square was the thing to do on TV. My family ate snacksx and drinks in preparation for the ball drop. As I got older, it became less important. I did go to Times Square in person several years ago. Since then, it's just another night. My SO and I just go go bed sat regular times, and wish each other Happy New Year in the morning.

16 Reply- +1 y
Instead of hitting the casino why don't you just go and have fun
- +1 y
@Sparkie460 thats fun to me. Its over 5000 people there and everyone parties together and toasts drinks (new years or not). Its not like some old casino where you just sit on the machines. Everyone is interactive and treating you like they knew you for years when younjust met that very day
- +1 y
Sounds like a great casino.
- +1 y
@Sparkie460 its all our casinos. there's like 10-15 lined up on the block. Each casino is half hotel/theatre/shopping mall. Theymre huge
- +1 y
How far away from you are these casinos
- +1 y
@Sparkie460 not far at all. We usually go down there, play 4-6 hours then come back the same day
It's just a good excuse to party. Not that big a deal.
I've done really cool things with girlfriends on New Year's Eves - restaurants, clubs, Disneyland, the Queen Mary, ...
Lounging around and having lots of sex on New Years Day was awesome.
New Years Eve is a great time to hook up if you are single. Everyone wants someone to kiss at midnight.
I enjoyed having the day off work.
From 2005 through New Years 2019-20 friends of ours had a karaoke party at their house with lots of good food and drink. We'd ring in the new year at midnight.
They stopped socializing because of covid.
My wife and I plan to stay warm and cozy in our home and watch movies this year. We'll have some good food and snacks. We might even open some wine or make festive drinks. :-)00 ReplyIn Canada where I'm from and live,... no. Because of how The Canadian liberal government are operating Canada and on how COVID severely impacted and screwed many people over (including myself)... I'm sorry for saying something like this so bluntly but 2022 was a shit-hole for me. I don't want to come across as being pessimistic, but I'm not expecting 2023 to be mind-blowing great nor any different. I'll be completely surprised if 2023 becomes a fantastic year,... but the way things have been going, I'm no where near holding my breath.

+1 yWhen I was younger it was nothing more than an event that will probably get me laid.
I'm older now... I have a kid sitting behind me, I've been married for over a decade... New Year's means nothing to me other than the grocery store is finally not going to be packed with people that usually don't even leave their houses. I'm just glad it's some bullshit I don't have to deal with for a little while until next year.

+1 yWhen i was a kid it was totally awesome. Today I just don't really care. We're having some friends and family over and we just eat some good food and chill -- kinda like Biden who flew his big climate-unfriendly plane to a distant vacation destination

+1 yIt is and always will be, just like all the other major holidays. Even if in the far future even if it's just me (with or without family or extended family or close friends or girlfriend or wife or whatever) I'll always be celebrating and treasuring the memories of past and present. 😌😌

@exitseven it's amazing though how attitude is true in and for all things, yo there. So you know, you can always view it today as not the same as 30 years ago, or from tomorrow or from next next year's eve, you can view it more positively as it's just like 31 years ago :) ;)
+1 yI agree... and same here. I was so keen to buy firecrackers at like... 19ish, 21ish? Light them up in that place and then over there to impress people that excited me. Lol :]
So yeah and today I feel like enjoying the peace and spending time with my family. It's the same as celebrating your birthday that's once year.
But are you aware that there is a deep and meaningful message behind that question? That is: Life is so short.
00 ReplyI worked my normal shift today, then came home. Next two days are weekend. Then I go back to work, and it will be a normal work week. We are busy so although Monday would normally be a holiday due to New Years being on Sunday, we will have to work. We can take a comp day off later. So no big deal at all.

+1 yWe have fun now, sometimes traveling, or we go to sleep after the countdown.
When younger, it was about "Dick Clark's" new years, the music and I enjoyed that. I rarely went out as I chose to avoid the drunks.
10 ReplyI don't really care about new years. But again I don't really care about many other events as well, be it the world cup or some celeb getting married.
Getting hyped up over things like this don't make any sense to me.

+1 yYes, I love New Year's Eve celebrations. Every year I find 10 or so celebrations that look like fun, but sadly I never get to go. Perhaps someday before I need a diaper and a walker to get out of the house. 😔
