Marriage is a piece of paper because-
If your relationship is healthy, getting married won't change a thing.
If your relationship is not healthy, it still won't change a thing, and you should not expect that it will.

The "work hard for your relationship" part ONLY applies to those that WANT a relationship and is currently IN A relationship, but doesn't apply to those that DON'T WANT a relationship, and are currently SINGLE and aren't looking for any relationships.

I dont see marriage as just a piece of paper though, but money is. Money comes, money goes. But marriage, hopefully meant to be forever till the end of time.

Money can be traded for goods and services.

Marriage can't be.

All money is worth what is says on the tin.

Not all marriages are worth the same/ have the same bond or strength.

Money can't just leave you because it feels like it.

Partners can.

A good marriage is worthwhile but those are so rare nowadays.

I think that quote is more referencing the fact that getting married doesn't make you more or less attached to someone. You can not be married and be much more committed than another married couple
