How is a guy supposed to (secretly) find out his girls’ ring size and type of ring so that he can propose to her?

I’m just curious. My boyfriend and I are probably going to get married one of these days and I’ve always wondered how men find their girls’ ring. I do have one ring that I absolutely adore. It’s expensive but i just really like the style and im sure there are rings out there that are a lot cheaper. But my question is, how do guys’ secretly get their girls’ ring?
How do they knew what stone she wants? How about her size? Style? Etc…

I think the most common thing to do is to steal some rings that she already wears to take to the jewelry store. The people there use that to gauge the size. (I have a ring that I wear every day. If someone took it I would be a panicked mess, and would probably make myself sick, but that's an example).

Other times there are ways to measure. But that's hard to do while still being subtle. It might depend on how heavy of a sleeper you are.

Sometimes they enlist the help of the girl's friends. Or family. I know if I go shopping with friends, I'm quite fond of the little local stores with cheap handmade jewelry. I usually end up trying on quite a few different rings. It would be pretty easy for a friend to then buy one that fit while I wasn't paying attention. They're usually pretty cheap.

And if despite his attempts, he's still somewhat off, you can usually get rings resized a little bit after the proposal, depending on what they're made of. But that can be expensive, and it would delay the time before you could show off the ring to everyone you know.

If this is his intention he will find a way. He may just ask a family member or friend what you like, what's your size.

I think maybe consider that it would be his choice what style, cut, price etc. He is choosing for you. It's his ring that he wants you to have. The size can always be altered after.

The easiest would be if she already has rings. Then he could get the size from that. I've also heard of guys measuring their girlfriends ring finger with a peice of string while she's sleeping, or asking a friend of hers to learn her ring size. I even saw one guy who just asked co workers if he could hold their hands and he kept doing this until he found someone who's hand felt similar to his girlfriend's, asked what ring size their wear, and got a ring based on that.
As far as design... that's a lot tougher and most guys probably just get a ring they think looks good

i didn't i just went ahead and bought theirs almost two years ago. it's a.70 ct diamond princess cut that's E color and VVS1 clarity in 14k white gold. I bought them a size 7. I didn't know their size or the kind they liked i just went ahead and did it. if it doesn't fit their finger they can keep it locked up in storage or put a gold chain around it and wrap it around their neck like a necklace. i don't want that ring taken to a jeweler because they have a habit of swapping stones without the owner's knowledge regardless if it's for cleaning or resizing.

I kept asking my boyfriend and he wouldn’t find out his ring size for me so I got fed up and delivered a ring sizer to his address. He thought it was super funny and tried it on for me over FaceTime. Now I have his ring size in advance if I ever need it. And he has mine. The whole trying to find out the size secretly doesn’t seem right to me lol.

Ring sizes are tricky. A wider band needs a half size up from a narrower band. My husband just have me a ring this year. We've been married for 20 years and I still had to get the ring resized.

I think its really dumb to buy a ring without her approving. I'm super picky and would advise anyone I thought might propose to me against it. I also hate rings but if I was gonna be forced to accept one I would have to have him give me a budget and pick it out myself. I'd I pretty much told a dude to propose to me with a ring pop. I got this little finger measurer thingy and i was going to try and get the measurement while she was asleep. Instead I saw a ring that she sometimes wears on her ring finger so I borrowed it and the guy in the jewelry store was able to get the measurement for me.

You could take an existing fashion ring she likes to wear and take that with you to the jewelry store. My husband, with whom I have been with almost 30 years and go and buy your ring together. That's what we did. I love my ring.

When I got my ex wifes engagement ring, I just measured a ring she had on the same finger on the right hand. When she showered she would always take her rings off so it was easy really.

If she already has a ring (like in a jewelry box [that fits] ) swipe that shit for an afternoon… or keep a small thing of string on u at all times… next time u catch her asleep laso that Dedo, cut or mark where the string touches and take that to the jeweler.

Rings will always need adjusting. Most places throw this in with the purchase. Kind of dampens the proposal of it not fitting.

Common trick now is propose with the loose diamond in a box then get the ring made together after she has accepted to fit her specifications

Rings are a symbol of love and commitment, or supposed to be. Not all woman like diamonds, but plain bands, same with men who might like the opposite. You’re under 18? You might feel differently when you’re older and find the right partner.
