When it comes to engagement/wedding rings, who should be the person choosing the rings: the man or woman?

I've heard it's typical for the man to choose a woman's rings since he is the one that proposes but I cannot imagine that to many men are educated about rings or know their woman's style/fashion to pick out good rings. 💍💍💍

If you are/have been married or engaged who picked out the rings?

I personally picked out my own. My husband doesn't know anything about jewelry so it would have been bad if he picked for me.

I’m split on this. For one you want it to be a surprise, so as the man I’d say let him pick. Because if she picked it’s like ok here’s the bike you asked me for to get you for Christmas. Surprise. It’s not the same because it didn’t come from you as the man, from your heart cause she told you what she wanted. But on the other hand I always tell women if you’re not sure what to get your man for his birthday or Christmas just ask him. That way it saves you time, you get him something you know he wants and that he will use for a long time. So w that being said the same concept applies. She’s going to be wearing it hopefully for the rest of her life so she should have a say in it. I think they can both come to an agreement as far as various ones she likes as well as what they can afford. I say they not because I’m expecting her to pay part of it, but because they have to take into consideration other financial obligations especially if he’s the only one working.

Since the woman is going to wear the ring for a long time, she should have a say in what the ring is.

Both guy and girl should go to the jewelers and together pick out an engagement ring. It's also a good time to pick out wedding rings so that her wedding and engagement rings go together, and the guy gets the kind of ring that he wants. You can also get a deal (save some money) if you buy the complete package at one time.

My husband chose my engagement ring, and he chose absolutely perfectly. It totally fits my style when it comes to jewellery - I’m simple and I don’t wear much jewellery aside from multiple ear piercings. He knows me and knew I wouldn’t ever ask for or want an expensive, fancy ring with a huge diamond on it.

We chose the actual wedding bands together because we wanted them to match somewhat, and have something special engraved on the inside.

It’s not like an adult leading a girl/Boy Scout troupe lol it’s one adult plus one adult. Two adult people can surely sort things out between the two of them.

I owned or family jewelry store for 32 years, and it ran about 50/50 with the guy picking it out, or the couple came in together to pick it out.
Once in a while the bride's mom also got involved which many times became a complete shit show.
If I was the potential groom I would have run like hell, because you know that is how your life would have been until the day she died.

The idea is that traditionally she doesn't know until he proposes "wink wink nudge nudge" so how could she possibly pick it out... unless they happen to be at a jewler and he just asks her what she likes... anyway it's silly and yes she ends up wearing it but it's not supposed to be all that.

I did it for my wife. I don't think she liked it or even likes it now after 26 years. But she has hung on to it (and to me 🤣🤣🤣).

In our culture, it's what the guy does but he may go with other ladies of his own family (mom / a friendly aunt / cousin / sister) because its true; most of us guys do not have a great idea about jewelry.

She picked out her wedding ring which she already had as it was a gift from her grandmother. I got the engagement ring. I was smart with getting her likes and dislikes - but she knew it was a matter of when not if... so even though I thought I was discreetly finding out, she was on to me as she knew it was a matter of when not if... the surprise was more the timing vs. the idea - and she loved the ring :)

My now SIL and I went shopping because she “needed my opinion” on a few things. It just so happened that we ended up in a jewelry store at the mall, and wound up looking at engagement rings. Fast forward four months, and he proposed. Out of pure coincidence, the ring in the box was the same one that I said was gorgeous. Not that my husband conspired with his sister, or anything.

I knew I wanted to marry my wife after about six months of dating. Throughout dating I would take her to jewelry store to window shop and occasionally surprise her with something. That way I knew what she liked and her size. Her promise ring I chose, as well as her engagement ring. She chose her actual wedding ring. I chose my own wedding ring.

It's dependent on the relationship. Sometimes the guy knows a lot about it and the girl doesn't. Sometimes it's the reverse. Sometimes she doesn't care, and sometimes he works together with her to figure out her preferences but he still makes the decision.

Out of all the movies and TV shows I've seen, no one does that. They present her with a ring and say "Will you marry me?" I'd like to know who choose their own engagement ring. I thought it was traditional for the man to choose, but I think the most important part is not to spend too much $$. Keep it simple. Remember that you will likely get a lot wealthier as you get older, so the ring that cost a huge amount now may be a trinket in 30 years.

Well "the one who pays the bills" chooses.
Otherwise there is a chance that the most expensive ring will be chosen and the guy has to work his ass off to pay it. Or the girl could end up not really seeing the value of the ring.
Either way there is a chance it can bring tension down the road when the girl is picking the ring while the guy is the one paying the bill.

So if she wants to pick, she better be the one paying for it.
