Both. It shouldn't be diamonds though. It should be something that means something to both of you. Go to a public mine/claim and try to find gemstones together, it will mean more.
The man should always pick the engagement ring, If he knows his intended well enough he should be able to choose the ring to match her, also it his symbol of betrothal to her and remains his property, no matter what women think today, it is never a 'gift'.
The man. It's his money that has to buy the ring so why should she be allowed to pick the ring. Chances are it will also be him paying a big chunk of the wedding so she should appreciate whatever ring he buys her.
The person paying for it 😂 if a guy gives a girl the option to pick ut ou, dont be fool, SET A BUDGET! If you can't do that, pick it out yourself 😂

"I cannot imagine that to many men are educated about rings or know their woman's style/fashion" You have spent too much time with boys instead of men.

Id so chose my ring and I'd always wanna be the one to choose it!
id let the girl pick out her stuff, men that know too much about jewelry are gay anyways.
True lol
I did not buy an engagement ring. We both picked out our wedding rings.

I think that they should pick them out together, but usually the guy picks it out to surprise her
@Apple1996 thanks for the like

I think each person should be able to pick their own rings.
I think going and picking them out together is one more step in working together.
I would like to proposal to her and afterwards let her pick her engagement ring 🥰😃
Quite funny how women who marry broke men care so much about rings. If you wanted a nice ring, dont marry a broke man. Marry a rich one
I don't think a nice ring has to be expensive
@Apple1996
nice rings tend to be expensive. the more people that want it, the higher the price. thats how economics work.

Mutual shopping, but ultimately the womanβs choice!
The woman wears them, so she should pick them.
but... who pays?
@strateguy632 The guy. Guys ALWAYS pay...
Hey honey, I was planning to take you out on your birthday and surprise you by proposing.
Would you like to select the ring so that I can surprise you?
How does it sound?
Never surprise propose to a woman
I thought women loved it
No a lot of them feel forced to say yes in the moment so it's not good
Even if it's just the two of them?
Yes I think so. Just a lot of pressure to say yes
Okay

Engagement rings are the biggest waste of money. You buy a 10k ring and try to resell it and you'll be lucky if you get 2.5k
They don't have to be expensive
I'd rather buy something fun together that is worth those rings. Way better than a piece of metal with a rock glued to it.
Rings don't have to be expensive tho
Sort of defeats the purpose "wedding rings", something that's suppose to be "special" if they don't have to be expensive.
Usually the standard is that the man picks it out.
I let her buy ring for her...
Because I have zero knowledge about rings
