How to stop doubts when trust was broken even though there was no cheating involved?

How was my trust broken?

My husband cheated on his ex-wife with his colleague. He said he never really loved his wife and that his wife stopped showing affection and never wanted to have sex for a long time. Thus, he cheated. Now, his colleague, whom he cheated with, moved to a new state to stop their relationship because she doesn't want her family to be broken.

When we got engaged, a conversation about exes came up, and he mentioned he was still emailing his ex (colleague). He even showed me the email. He said to her, "I missed you. "I'm so glad to hear from you." He said that when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend online. (We started with a 2 year-long distance relationship before we met each other in person and got engaged.) He said that he just doesn't burn bridges with people who want to keep in touch.

So I urged him to stop this communication by letting her know that we're already engaged. When she replied, she said she had mixed feelings and thought that they should stop communicating so as not to jeopardize our engagement and future marriage. I asked him if he's gonna reply to her, and I wanted to see what he would say. He said he won't reply.

After a while, he brought up that he actually replied to her, and I never really got to read his reply.

I felt blindsided twice. The first time he told me about his ex colleague, he never mentioned that they were still communicating. I just found out about it after we got engaged.

This broke my trust. But still, I married him, knowing that doubts would always creep in my mind, and I told him that he would always have to reassure me when that happens.

We're married for 6 months now. This month, on the 23rd, we're getting married again in church.

I really need some help in combating these doubts, especially if he's really not cheating on me. I'm afraid he hasn't changed at all and that he would just repeat what he did in the past and cheat on me too. Any advice?
