How can I convince my parents to start letting me buy cars from random people off Craigslist? What is the car you drive and all the ones you’ve owned?

This one has a broken timing chain. But those are very easy to replace. I love the sporty trims and can’t beat the price!

Otherwise I really like classic cars and I’d like to get this one as well!

My parents just won’t let me shop on Craigslist. They have no interest in doing it themselves and they think its unsafe to do these things and that I might get scammed.

I really want to bring some excitement to my life though.

But my Dad told me to learn to appreciate what I have when I talked to him about it this morning.

I was just telling him about how I saw an add just posted there yesterday evening of an 03 Toyota Tacoma mint conditioned, garaged, low miles, runs and drives for only $1200 that somebody was selling.

But by the time I checked again for it this morning it was already sold! Its the same truck I already own aside from the fact that it was a four door automatic and the frame was far less rusted.

Even though that truck was better I still didn’t plan on getting rid of my own. I even told him that. Because I know he worked really hard on registering my car.

I had no intention of getting rid of a Birthday gift my Grandpa gave me. After all the truck was first driven by its original owner on my exact birthdate! The sentimental value is irreplaceable!

But the thing is I do appreciate what I have. Contrary to what my Dad says. I’m not some spoiled kid that wants luxury, I’m just someone that gets excited over good deals!

I am very greatful for the truck I own but I just want to be able to experience new things and enjoy them as well.

Is there anybody who can help me with my situation? I don’t own my own home yet because I’m only 19. They don’t want more cars in our driveway.

The moment you can stand on your own two feet basically not asking your father what to do in life is the moment you can basically do whater you want in life.

The choice is your own to make by the way. Nobody can stop you to buy something.

For me i was like 15y old when my money income was cut from my parents. Had to find a job was a tough childhood. But worth it. Basically i was able to buy anything i want without asking for my father approvel sure he'd yell about it but was my own money so he had no choice but to accept my decision. That's how it works basically, your own money. Your own choice. As for the cars you want ask yourself what you want and which one is better learn by making mistakes.

As for how many cars I've bought and did sell to many to count. But for like two years I've decide to own only two a BMW X5 and ML270. The BMW is what i drive my wife drives the Benz.

As my hobby is Mechanic i work on them myself and kind is my joy and sorrow. I will not bother buying anything else because I've put time, money and love into them already. Probs the wife is going to want a newer one this year 😅 but sacrifices will be made as long as i can keep those two.

That's how it works for most ot us. Sure I'd wish my father shared his wealth with me but nope had to work as a mad dog and travel around the world until i could afford anything.

See he is still yelling from time to time but that's what parent's do.

Secretly he is proud but will never tell me. But i know he thinks best. But I ain't no kid so any mistake i make is my own to solve.

You should listen to your parents, but have your own opinion on everything. They say to listen to them not to do what they say. Listen not do.

Buying cars is tricky! You never know how expensive the repair is going to cost.

So my advice is have a talk with your father and prepare a solid resume on why you should buy that car. What are the cons and probs at it!

Is it worth it can it be sold quickly. Is maintenance worth it those stuff.

You need to learn the value of money first and how to spend them wisely

As for my hobby it came natural. My father used to yell and tell me how to repair this and that. And one day i kind lost my job had to find a new one so i went for a Mechanic and it turned out i was natural and i actually remembered what he said. About engines and stuff.

And then came the books about engines and work/error/trial stuff and this days i can do mostly anything. Though it's just a hobby as i am the CEO in my own company and I don't have any free time. I know i can afford most expensive cars but i will not buy them if I don't like them that much. As i said only my wife will get a better car because woman enjoy style I don't care at all.

Well they are partially right, there is always the potential to get ripped off - it’s a matter of when not if when you buy used cars. It’s your money to spend, come up with a a game plan of where you’re gonna put them if space is their concern
And a timing chain is definitely not a “very easy”. It’s not rocket science, but you need the proper tools and knowledge. And a rust free low mile Tacoma is worth way more than 1200, so my money would be scam. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is

Well dude. Oftentimes its just old people trying to get rid of their shit. With some people they don’t care much for the actual money side of things

Occasionally, sure there are definitely legit good deals out there. But they are a whole lotta scam artists out there too. Buying something you don’t know a ton about just because it seems like a good deal is gonna cost you a lot of money.
Bought and sold a lot of vehicles, been hosed on my fair share. Happens to everybody

Just sharing what I’ve experienced. We all start somewhere, you’re gonna get screwed at some point so just prepare yourself for that. If you can’t accept that risk than it’s not the right hobby for you.

Try to buy and sell them as is then offer the repairs as part of the price, it's then a business exchange and not your personal vehicle
